Is NASCAR's new points system too complicated to work?

On Monday evening, NASCAR kicked off its 2017 preseason media tour with what now happens so often, it is close to being labeled a tradition, like spraying champagne in Victory Lane.

First day of NASCAR media day yields few real answers

Call it a media day with few answers.

Oh, there were answers to questions. But mostly there were unknowns disguised as responses.

The two biggest news stories of the month still are a little bit of the biggest mysteries, as the annual NASCAR preseason media days in Charlotte had drivers plowing through the first day that included photo shoots, interviews with television partners and other media as well as short news conferences.

Carl Edwards 'would consider' running for U.S. Senate seat in 2018

Carl Edwards remains a hot topic in NASCAR, two weeks after his abrupt retirement as a full-time driver.

Terry Smith, a political science professor at Columbia College, speculated in a Wednesday piece for KBIA's Talking Politics that Edwards will challenge U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill in Missouri next year.

The race had its issues, but the Daytona 500 win by Kurt Busch was a thriller

While the cars of his competition were blowing tires and shedding bodywork in a crash-filled Daytona 500, the only thing that fell off Kurt Busch's Ford was the rear view mirror.

Richard Petty a fixture at the track, and that's not changing anytime soon

Richard Petty, surrounded by decades of Petty history at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, chuckles a little bit when asked if he would ever decide not to go to the race track, that his land in Wyoming would be a much more peaceful option to spend months during the year rather than the chaos of a NASCAR race weekend.

Darrell Wallace Jr. signs with Petty, will become first full-time African American Cup driver since 1971

The pairing of Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series team Richard Petty Motorsports and driver Darrell Wallace Jr., a work-in-progress for weeks, is a reality.

The team announced Wednesday that Wallace, 24, will drive for RPM full-time in the series next season.
