How about Oscar Perfromance tying a world record in winning the Poker (and in doing so breaking the 20 year old track record set by Elusive Quality) in his first race back off a layoff?

I saw that. It sounds like he will be pointed exclusively to mile races for the remainder of the season.

Also... Mind You Biscuits is now pointing to the 9-furlong Whitney.

Per Baffert American Anthem is likely to run next in either the San Diego at Del Mar or the Forego at Saratoga.

Interesting that Baffert's keeping Hoppertunity on the east coast. He does seem to really love Belmont though.

I said after the Brooklyn that I wondered why the connections did send him to Belmont more often. He's won on the west coast, obviously, but I feel his biggest efforts seem to come when he's on the road.

Where are Always Dreaming and Cloud Computing? Neither has posted a workout in the past 60 days and both their last races were around Kentucky Derby time. Seeing Tapwrit yesterday reminded me that all 3 winners of the 2017 Triple Crown races were still in training(maybe). Unfortunately none of them has managed a win since then.

From the DRF:
Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said that Takaful, the winner of last year’s Grade 1 Vosburgh, was euthanized earlier this year due to an injury suffered following routine surgery. McLaughlin said Takaful underwent surgery on a hock, and when he tried to get up in recovery, he took a bad step and suffered a fracture that proved fatal.

I wonder if a recovery pool could have prevented that fracture? I know that not many vet hospitals have those pools but, when I read of an incident like this, I wish more did. :(

As do I. But it's my understanding that the recovery pool isn't used that often even for surgeries at e.g. New Bolton. Too much of an additional expense maybe?

I don't think a recovery pool would've prevented it in this case, it sounds like he was just trying to get up - the recovery pool mostly just prevents the horse from thrashing and hurting themselves if they panic. Result probably would've been the same once he got out of the pool and tried getting up, if he were to take a bad step.

Very sad though, RIP Takaful :(
