Seeing Tapwrit yesterday reminded me that all 3 winners of the 2017 Triple Crown races were still in training(maybe). Unfortunately none of them has managed a win since then.

From the DRF:

Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said that Takaful, the winner of last year’s Grade 1 Vosburgh, was euthanized earlier this year due to an injury suffered following routine surgery. McLaughlin said Takaful underwent surgery on a hock, and when he tried to get up in recovery, he took a bad step and suffered a fracture that proved fatal.

I wonder if a recovery pool could have prevented that fracture? I know that not many vet hospitals have those pools but, when I read of an incident like this, I wish more did. :(

As do I. But it's my understanding that the recovery pool isn't used that often even for surgeries at e.g. New Bolton. Too much of an additional expense maybe?
