Mandella says if Smith opts for a Baffert horse, Flavien Prat is waiting in the wings to get back on Omaha Beach.

He likes Flavien, but not his agent that much

Really hesitant to make a top five list or declare who I think will win, lol. I'm afraid I might jinx it.

Although to be fair, my pick for last year was a good second, and BoM was third in 2017, and Nyquist won in 2016...

If you've got somebody that wasn't based in California, your price should be right, good luck.

Todd only has two horses in? I thought he made reservations for 5 gate doors every January! The end of the world as we know it!

Any informed guesses on defections from the top-20 list?

I wonder about Spinoff, but he's one of only two for Pletcher, and I can't remember a time when he only had one entry.

And I wonder what Mott will do with Country House.

Country House is one of those horses who runs in the top 5, because he’s peaking just righhhhhhht.
Or, maybe it’s a lot to ask of him at this point. :?:
Before this weekend they were sure of his ability to get 10 furlongs, and to run back 3 weeks twice. Sounds like he’s tough and they expect him to be going.

20th spot is held by a Japanese horse who has 19 points. What the hell? I never pay attention to these horses (or the UAE Derby winner) - automatic toss! - but, seriously, he has 19 points. That seems unfair.

From DRF.....

Jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr., has committed to ride Plus Que Parfait in the Kentucky Derby, his agent, Ruben Munoz, said Monday. The horse is coming off a win in the Group 2 UAE Derby.

Santana was aboard Plus Que Parfait when he won his maiden last fall at Keeneland, said Munoz. Brendan Walsh trains Plus Que Parfait.

Santana is tied atop the current rider standings at Oaklawn.

From DRF.....

Irad Ortiz Jr. will ride Improbable in the Kentucky Derby, according to Elliott Walden, the chief executive of co-owner WinStar Farm.

Jose Ortiz, Irad's brother, rode Improbable to a second-place finish in the Arkansas Derby on Saturday. Jose Ortiz has chosen to ride Tacitus, the Wood Memorial winner, in the Kentucky Derby.

Walden said Irad Ortiz was chosen because "he's a top rider, and we won a Belmont Stakes with him with Creator."

"It made sense," Walden said Monday. "He's an Eclipse Award-winning rider."

Irad Ortiz rode Win Win Win to a second-place finish in the Blue Grass Stakes eight days ago. Julien Pimentel will replace him on Win Win Win.

Other riding assignments, most notably the choice of Mike Smith between Omaha Beach and Roadster, are expected in the next day or so, and will unleash a domino effect of Derby mounts.

From DRF....

Julien Leparoux will ride Japanese invader Master Fencer in the Kentucky Derby on May 4 at Churchill Downs, his agent, Steve Bass, said Monday.

Master Fencer earned a spot in the Derby via the Japanese Road to the Derby series.

Bass said Master Fencer is scheduled to arrive at Churchill Downs on April 26.

Is it just me or does it seem odd that 40, or I guess 38 pts, is not enough to get in? Did we just not have a lot of defections or am I misremembering past point thresholds?

Kinda crazy Instagrad ( who I think would make a much much better miler) isn't even in the top 25

I think his workout was the Santa Anita Derby on 4/6. Speaking of Dorf 3yo’s. I missed Rowayton’s race on 4/13. I know he burned $$, did he change leads?
