Big, big weekend for Abel Cedillo. His star is certainly on the rise.

There's a very good chance that Cedillo will be riding her in the BC Distaff. I understand that Shirreffs put Abel up on Paradise Woods because Mike Smith, her usual rider, is committed to Midnight Bisou (no surprise) for the Distaff. And Abel consulted with Mike about PW's quirks and preferences before the race.
Very happy for the filly, rider and trainer. :D
Still unhappy about the Lady's Secret being renamed. Much as I love the Big Z, removing the name of such a great racehorse as LS from this race is just wrong.

I respect any jockey who can pull a win out of Paradise Woods. She has all the ability in the world, but getting her to show it can be difficult. He rode her perfectly in the Zenyatta!

and speaking of Zenyatta, here's a nice recap....

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

All of the fall stakes races run during the old Oak Tree Meeting had to be renamed since the names were property of the Oak Tree Racing Association. Oak Tree had intended to change the name themselves, but when Zenyatta was un-retired in 2010, they held off—under advisement of the Mosses—lest Zenyatta perhaps run in a race with her name. Had Oak Tree gone through with the change, the name race would have had to have been changed from that. I think it’s just as bad that no CA track has a race named for Ancient Title any longer. I don’t think too many remember what a terrific horse he was and even though he was much more than a sprinter it was nice to have him be remembered once each fall.

Really impressive, but hard to care knowing he won't be racing much longer.

You need to read my new book, “Zen and the Art of Handicapping.”😉

I like geldings, I spend a lot of time with them so I guess they’re the answer.

are we sure Omaha is going to be retired at the end of this year? a couple of the tvg guys seemed to refer to him as being a monster next year - things like that - so I started to wonder - maybe Mr Porter plans on running him next year(?) - that would be fun.

If he goes in the Sprint, I think they’ll go on with him. The Dirt Mile and you probably won’t. I don’t think there is any way he goes in the Classic off of one sprint prep.

yeah I suppose I was dreaming, wanting him to go in the classic - shoot, if he did and won the thing, you could add his name to the HOY discussion.

but I am sure Mandella will do right by the horse and put him where he thinks he belongs.

and no matter where that is, I have complete faith in this horse to win.

one thing is certain, he won't back down from a battle.

That is just the definition of a class horse and a class trainer. I'm not going to let his possible retirement put me off appreciating a brilliant performance.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

I agree, Diver!

and what I meant to say earlier..... was if OB went in the classic and won the thing, he would have to be included in the HOY discussion.

but I do agree with earlier comments by others, I really truly doubt Mandella runs him in the classic.

103 BSF for Omaha

well..... it does not sound like the Classic is totally out of the picture for Omaha Beach - Mandella says he is considering 3 BC races for him - including the Classic.

and sweet how Mandella also said Omaha has the greatest personality of any horse he has ever had in his barn.

Mike Smith may have lost the ride on McKinzie, but having Omaha Beach may end up putting him on the better horse if OB goes in the Classic.

I love Mandella, but how do you prepare a horse for 3 completely different races?
