Here is the current accurate information for the earthquake that hit Anchorage this morning, I live about 365 miles north of the epicenter and some people in Fairbanks and surrounding areas felt the initial earthquake, however I did not.
There are other things that I could do, but there's really nothing that I love as much as horse racing. Chantal Sutherland

222 reported dead, so far. And Anak Krakatau is still erupting.

If I recall the stories correctly, this one's daddy also was a holy terror.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 23, 2018 8:18 pm222 reported dead, so far. And Anak Krakatau is still erupting.![]()

Yes. Mt. Krakatoa's 1883 massive eruption was heard as far away as Australia, created a 100-foot-high tsunami that killed at least 36,000 (at a time when that region was not as densely-populated as it is now) and darkened skies over Europe and North America for months. The noise of the explosive eruption is considered the loudest heard in historical times.
Anak Krakatau translates to 'child of Krakatoa,' and this young volcano formed on the shattered slope of Krakatoa.

Hearing Mt Krakatoa's 1883 eruption as far away as Australia - that is quite impressive: that's more than the distance from Houston, TX to Chicago, IL. Yikes...BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 24, 2018 3:25 pmYes. Mt. Anak Krakatoa has managed to lose one side to a massive landslide, which contributed too the tsunami between Sumatra and Java. So far, the death toll is above 400. I would not advise tourist visits any time soon. Quakes are still on going, many in the 5.0 range

My sister and I were sitting at the dining table when everything started to gently rock back and forth. Wasn't any doubt what it was, although the long roller didn't knock anything down.
Although I bet that if we were near the epicenter, it wouldn't have felt so 'gentle.'

I felt a roll, wondered if I was dizzy for a second, then wondered if it could possibly be a small quake... switched over to twitter and yup, earthquake. And I'm over 450 miles away from the epicenter!
(okay maybe 300miles as the crow flies, but there's mountains and stuff in the way)
