Will not be headed to old friends yet. Ron paolucci has taken imperative out of retirement...the horse is nine...what more does he have left to prove?

I didn't even know he was headed to Old Friends....but now I'm upset because he would have a good home there. The horse, of course, is showing that he doesn't want to run anymore - poor thing; I'm afraid this won't end well. He deserves much better than this.

I am afraid it won't end well, but worse Paolucci obviously does not carej

Didn't Paolucci say that once all of his current horses in training are retired/sold, he is done with the game? Maybe he just isn't willing to take one more step closer to leaving.

I mean someone said on Twitter he is going to Old Friends in November, just not right now. Was his retirement ever even mentioned? I mean I saw a twitter post from Old Friends saying he was going there but it didn't say when.

In Loooch's defense, his promise to retire Imperative was made before they announced that new $20 million Saudi race
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

It is disgusting. The horse doesn’t want to run anymore. There is no defense of his greedy decision.

Just to be clear, @ShamIAmNot is a satire account so that tweet was meant as a joke.

But maybe you all already knew that and I just misinterpreted it ;)

My understanding was that he would go to OF toward the end of the year - after he was finished racing. Like Flanders, I never heard of any actual retirement just yet. Imperative may be getting tired of racing, but the connections also see that he has earned north of 300K this year just by lollygagging at the back of the pack. Personally, for me, that's not a good enough reason to keep him employed, but greed is often the driving force. I'm pretty sure, however, that he'll be just fine.

He was to be retired after the Whitney. This is preposterous.

The partner, John Guarnere, had announced the retirement via twitter also. He is also the one who posted a few days ago that Imperative is no longer retired, and that it sounded like he gave his share (or sold it) to paolucci. He also said he hopes the horse stays safe and wished him luck. I just feel so sorry for this horse. His medication list was posted from 8-1-19, where he received 3 different meds for osteoarthritis. And also has a history of a fractured pelvis. No longer competitive except for an allowance at Thistledown. When is enough enough.

Apparently enough will be enough for Paolucci when the horse breaks down

Imperative will be supplemented to the Whitney on sat — he’s as good as he’s ever been right now...if he’s not competitive he will be retired my partner and I both agree on this ! No better race or place if it’s his last dance!! #handsomeboy #warrior #allclass

Imperative was last in the Whitney. . .

Yeah, but it was evidently a competitive last. After the Whitney, the subject of Imperative’s retirement came up on Paulick’s site. Someone wondered why Loooch gets so much grief but not Leonard Powell for Soi Phet. This is why. The situations aren’t apples and oranges they’re banana and kiwi.
