I don't always agree with verdicts coming out of our court systems, but this time I've got to believe JH is a slam dunk winner, just a question of which deep pockets he and his attorney take aim at.

Maybe Hollendorfer does have the right to take his case to court. But the downside for him will be that every drug violation, every horse injury or death, every horse for whom he was responsible that ended up at a kill buyer auction, will be made very public for all to read.
He might win the case, but both his career and reputation would be dog meat.

All but about 17 trainers nationwide wouldn't be too keen for their lifetime record to be opened for public scrutiny.
JH needs to exercise his rights and demand they show 'n tell him what they've got on him, other than the obvious headlines.

Makes NO SENSE to me that TSG pulled this crap on the LAST of the Santa Anita meet- to what end was Belinda striving for? THIS is a bad bad situation and could get very ugly

PETA and its tool the Los Angeles Times won't care that this could easily have happened in a pasture. IIRC one of Zenyatta's foals suffered a fatal injury in a paddock collision.

really wish Monmouth would cancel tomorrow - Saratoga and so many other tracks back there are canceling races tomorrow because of the high heat and humidity - really wish Monmouth would too.

I am sick to read about those poor horses at del mar this morning - what an absolutely horrifying and tragic thing - so very sorry for those poor animals.

I was sitting in a doctor's waiting room late this morning, and the office TV had the news on. So I got to hear the news about the two horses in the middle of a bunch of people...who probably had no idea why I suddenly exclaimed, "Aw crap!" :(

FWIW
72 degrees today.
A light sweater/jacket may be appropriate when the late afternoon ocean breeze picks up.

;)

I bet some of the trainers back east are wishing they were out here instead of sweltering at The Steambath...I mean The Spa. :P ;)

DEL MAR, Calif. -- Assistant starter Hector Ramirez was hospitalized on Sunday after a scary incident at Del Mar in which Ramirez collapsed right after race 6 and was revived by paramedics and EMTs, a fellow assistant starter, and two members of the track's grounds crew.

Ramirez collapsed in the chute on the turf course and was immediately tended to by another assistant starter, Gilberto Cardenas, according to head starter Jay Slender. Two members of the grounds crew, Arturo Moreno and Ignacio Banuelos, also immediately jumped in, according to Luis Jauregui, the safety steward of the California Horse Racing Board. All three men worked on Ramirez until two paramedics -- Blaine Nelson and Ken Glimme -- and two EMTs -- Luke Biggs and Cole Michael -- arrived, according to Kim Jacobson, the risk manager at Del Mar, who employs the paramedics and EMTs.

"He was dead," Slender said. "They saved his life."

Jacobson said that medical coordinator Mike Mejia assisted, too.

There always seems to be a plethora of photos and stories about KentD not riding 100% to the wire.

This Grade 1 ride should help balance things out at least a little bit.

Are trainers to blame for this?

Should be a fun 2YO filly race to watch, the 4th race on Sunday.
Not often do you get a Baffert first timer who is the 4th choice on the morning line.
America's Surprise should attract some fans, related to American Pharaoh and Songbird.
A couple of the sale prices/stud fees are rather amazing, for different reasons.

So......the filly from the $6,000 stud that sold for a whopping $850,000 put in an inspirational showing, hand ridden won as if much the best of a talented lineup.
