I'm up before dawn, so I thought I'd start a watch-along thread for this year's Royal Meet. Queen Anne goes off at 6:30 AM Pacific time. Royal Procession starts in a few minutes.
Don't necessarily care about the royal family but I like all the horses in the procession.

Lord Glitters, last year's runner-up, wins the Queen Anne by a nose over Beat the Bank. Last year's winner, Accidental Agent, just stood in his stall and didn't move a foot.

The Coventry goes to Arizona, a big, handsome son of No Nay Never. I think I heard this was Aiden O'Brien's 9th victory in this race. The dark brown colt seemed a little lazy in the first half of the race, but came with a strong charge in the last furlong.
Love the fact that he runs in what looks like a simple snaffle with no nose band.

Cool to see English Channel in the pedigree of a Roual Ascot winner.

When are we going to admit that Blue Point is simply better than Battaash? I'm so tired of people saying BP has better Ascot form, better over the 5f at Ascot, and if Battaash is in the right headspace he's unbeatable... yet again Blue Point beats Battaash fair and square.
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I think the horse that wins the most races is the faster horse.

Wow I love the hat that's actually little hats stacked on top of each other. Cute and unique.

Rain has softened the course...and probably ruined a few fine frocks.
Can you imagine spending a bunch of money for a fancy suit or dress, and then having to either get soaked or cover up with a homely plastic poncho?
Does anyone know what the weather forecast is for the next couple of days?

The No Nay Nevers are a precocious lot, like their dad, aren't they? I'd love to see a few more of them train on and become good older horses, but I guess eye-catching babies are going to be what we remember most of NNN as a sire.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 10:14 amThe Coventry goes to Arizona, a big, handsome son of No Nay Never. Weather Service has issued 80% chance of heavy rain for this afternoon, thunderstorms may develop, with some places getting torrential rail, lightning and possible hail. Decreasing chance of rain Wednesday and Thursday (40% Thu afternoon), with warmer weather and just slight chance of rain (5% in afternoon) on Friday. Friday should be warmest and sunniest day of festival. Less sunny on final day of festival.
A win is unrealistic but I'm excited to see what Maven does on Thursday.

So happy to see Crystal Ocean finally get his G1 and at Royal Ascot no less. I think Sea of Class needed the race and the conditions were against her. I bet Enable’s connections are really glad they decided to skip the race.

Yeah, those conditions were so testing that I don't think some trainers want to put their best horses into such a hard race so early in their season.
Nice win by the Gleneagle colt Southern Hills in the Windsor Castle. Coolmore must be happy to see their young sire have success at the Royal Meet.

Show Me Show Me broke through the gate before the start of the Windsor Castle and ran down the track, when they tried to catch him he took off back towards the stalls. He finally cantered back down towards the finish line and was caught but maybe here in the UK we should think about getting outriders, could have been a dangerous situation.
ETA: Thought it was funny that the horse started grazing when waiting to be caught the 2nd time around. Must have thought 'job done, time for a snack'
