oh my gosh thank you for posting that glorious win by dear Gander!! what a smart horse - he rode a perfect race - didn't bother anyone, stalked the leader - and knew when to make his move for the lead - one of my most favorite races ever! I remember watching it live and could not stop smiling after.... he was so awesome!

it was fun to watch it again. thank you!!
The way he times his final move always gets me. What a pro!

I found this lovely Barbara Livingston retrospective about Gander while looking for the race- enjoy! https://www.drf.com/blogs/catching-gander

War of Will has really surprised me, I had him completely wrong going into the Derby. I'm not sure I like him in the Belmont, and people are already talking about a possible golden rail, but he came home very strongly today and the race came back quicker than the Derby on Timeform ratings. Interested to see what the Beyer says, although Everfast, who was impossible on paper, may complicate things.

Super pleased with this result. War of Will has made me a fan; he is a genuinely good horse and scrapper. And the connections are a classy bunch.

TIL... more questions tho; is this hereditary? can this cause additional uncoundness issues, like a horse w this being more likely to come back w soft tissue injuries or anything?
They don't know what causes the type that is in the US which is Classic Stringhalt. They believe it is caused by traumatic nerve damage. There really isn't any treatment and none would be needed for WOW as his isn't severe. There are horses that will kick their underbellies because the stringhalt is so bad.

It doesn't harm the horse in anyway, its only noticeable at a walk, trot, turning and walking backwards.

To celebrate Bodexpress' adventure today, let's all recall the greatest riderless horse race of the modern era: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN2bG90Qxdc
No no. That would be the horse who beat NATIVE DIVER in one of his Hollywood GCs.
I am partial to Fort Larneds Gulfstream Park Handicap win in 2013, unfortunately you will have to find the head as he dusted them so badly he's only visible at the beginning and the end. I was at the track that day, he certainly knew his job, he even eased himself at the end.

I'm glad War of Will got a chance to prove himself. I've liked Bodexpress for awhile, he's a free spirit. Some horses can't be tamed.

It appears the real winner of the race was Bodexpress! Twitter is hilarious right now, and it's nice to see some mainstream positivity. And I have to give him credit- he switched leads beautifully the whole way around!

I do hope they run him in a maiden one of these days...
Wow... you aren't kidding
Or maybe just a Grade 3 going 1 & 1/16?

Didn't he also escort himself to the winner's circle after the race? :D

Winning Beyer Speed Figure of 100 for War of Will in the Preakness, per Team Beyer.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Lurker for centuries... but Gander memories got to me. He was my ID and password for everything, til I had to change! Don't know about the Winner's Circle, but it was said he delivered himself to an outrider, as all winners get to do! What a joy he was.

I was impressed with Warrior's Charge.

 Probably! If ever a horse knew his job...

Uh, so to all naysayers who said that War Front would never get a classic winner - eat crow! I'm so happy for War of Will. Casse and his team seem like such a classy group.

Upon further review by Team Beyer...fig now 99.

I still don't think he justifies the price. Even Forestry has a Classic winner.

I think the biggest shocker isnt War Front siring a Triple Crown race winner... its a Sadler's Wells mare producing a War Front one LOL
