First race winner Kowboy Karma was the work mate and target for Omaha Beach in his outstanding final Derby drill here last week, broke four lengths in front and finished five back of the likely Derby favorite who worked lights out that morning.

1st: 5 Kowboy Karma $23.20 $8.60 $5.00
2nd: 2Control Stake $6.20 $3.60
3rd: 6Mr. Crow $3.40
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

that result from the first race, Stark, makes me sick again about what happened to Omaha Beach. I really could see OB winning today. and the weather was in his favor too. just a rotten shame he never got his shot in the Derby.

another rainy Derby again this year. when was the last dry sunny one? AP's win?

I think 2016 when Nyquist won. Normally it ends up being sunny outside here when it's blah there, but all it does is rain in NY these days.

I am all about MITOLE! today. He is in against a salty bunch. I'm more anxious for that race than the actual Derby.

ah thanks Som! forgot about Nyquist - shame on me.

is it still raining a lot in NY today? I saw they cancelled racing from Belmont yesterday because of rain. they have a nice card there today. hoping the weather is much better for everyone.

Six of the horses in the upcoming race 3 at Churchill Downs either began their careers racing in California, or trained there before coming here for their debut.

KK's third dam is Althea, from Alydar's first crop. I think she went off as the favorite in Swale's Derby. I remember how incredibly keyed up she was in the paddock and took a hard pass on placing any wager on her.

Race 4, the big question is why was Borracho 20-1 on the morning line?
And, 4/5 was much too short to take on Hidden Scroll.

1st: 5 Borracho $13.20 $6.40 $3.60
2nd: 1 Chase The Ghost $21.80 $8.40
3rd: 2 Hidden Scroll $2.60

Mia Mischief takes the Humana Distaff over Marley's Freedom. Amy's Challenge was third.

Thinking about it more, I suspect Maximum Security is going favored right now because he's undefeated. He's still fouth favorite in the exotics.

Mike... what was that?

Reminder that in between races you can watch the Virginia Gold Cup live stream instead of NBC fluff pieces.

The G2 Semmes Memorial is at 3:15 and the titular Gold Cup is at 4.

I'll gladly take any fluff pieces over reports from Santa Anita/PETA/Belinda.

Mitole is insanely good.

I don't understand what's going on with the track though. Everyone just stayed well off the rail except for Miguel Mena, who rides it all the way along and gets his 7-1 shot home second?

Muchas gracias.

Well looks like you're gonna get both.
