Interesting chart from Churchill today- owner/trainer showing no starts on equibase claims 3 filly’s - 40,000 out of one race! Wishing them luck!

One of the Google search results for the name shows ties to both Wesley Ward and Coolmore. He's got a Facebook page, too, and his friends list includes several linked with Coolmore and other breeding operations. An owner/trainer worth watching, for sure, although he may be primarily interested in getting the fillies he claims off the track and into a breeding shed ASAP.

from drf....
Martin Garcia is leaving Southern California to ride in the Midwest. The 35-year-old jockey will begin riding Wednesday at Churchill, according to his new agent, Jay Fedor, and will compete at Turfway Park prior to moving his tack to Oaklawn Park ahead of that meet, which starts Jan. 24.

Garcia has won a number of major races, most of them for Bob Baffert, in a 14-year career that has stalled in recent times. Garcia won the 2010 Preakness with Lookin At Lucky, the 2011 Kentucky Oaks with Plum Pretty, and the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic with Bayern. He has 1,540 wins and mount earnings of more than $86 million since he began riding in the U.S. in 2005.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Many prominent New York trainers have been hit with additional fines from the New York State Department of Labor for what the government says are labor violations and unpaid wages, despite several of those conditioner having previously negotiated settlements with the federal Department of Labor.

A release from the New York Gaming Commission stated that wagers were recovered from Chad Brown, Kiaran McLaughlin, Linda Rice and Jimmy Jerkens. Additionally, Doodnauth Shivmangal and Leo O’Brien have been given orders of payment by the state. State officials quote the total amount for the six cases at close to $1 million for 350 backstretch employees.

Jockey Joe Talamo, a mainstay on the Southern California circuit, has decided to relocate to Oaklawn Park for the start of that track’s meeting on Jan. 24 and will ride on a year-round circuit that includes Arkansas and Kentucky.

sorry to see joe go - will miss seeing his always smiling face at the tracks here - a truly good guy - but totally understand why he is leaving - he has a young family and he just has not been getting as many mounts lately - wishing him and his sweet family all the best at oaklawn and in Kentucky.
