The turf experiment with Paradise Woods in the Osunitas wasn't exactly a great success. After a perfect trip in 2nd behind the eventual winner, she flattened out and I think finished 5th or 6th.

From Jeremy Balan via Paulick's Twitter feed:
Trainer John Sadler says Accelerate will scratch from the San Diego Handicap today. He’ll train up to the Pacific Classic.
Then:
From our preview earlier in the week: “Sadler isn't showing his hand yet but admitted ... he won't run all 3—Accelerate, Catalina Cruiser, and Curlin Rules.” I didn’t think it would be Accelerate, but in hindsight the work tab may have been a hint. 4 works, none more than 4F.
Then:
Owner Kosta Hronis said the Whitney at Saratoga Aug. 4 could also be a possibility for Accelerate, along with the Aug. 18 Pacific Classic. "Accelerate is perfect and will work tomorrow. No issue, just can't run them both (Accelerate and Catalina Cruiser) in this."

And now Curlin Rules is announced as a scratch too so down to 6.

It looks like the Eddie Read on the turf tomorrow will have a much better field than today's San Diego. Is our dirt handicap division that weak? Or is our grass division growing that much stronger?

TVG just announced that El Huerfano is out of the San Diego, taking the field down to just five.

Catalina Cruiser was giving me Justify vibes, with his gold coat, big white blaze and 1,200 lb. body. I know he only beat four horses in the San Diego, but the way he did it was kind of impressive.
Maybe we have someone to add to the Classic division? He certainly has the pedigree to be a 10 furlong horse.

Brave win by War Heroine in the G2 San Clemente. Looked a lot like her sire Lonhro - black, fast and determined to not let anyone pass her.

Trainer John Sadler said after Catalina Cruiser's win in the San Diego that he would not run both he and Accelerate in the Pacific Classic next month.
Being as Accelerate was set to run today, and Catalina Cruiser looks like a worthy $1 million Pacific Classic runner, I asked Sadler just now if that might put Accelerate on a plane to Saratoga for the $1.2 million Whitney in two weeks?
"That process starts tomorrow," he said. "If he has a good work this week and then another next week we might. To be determined."
Obviously much would depend on how Catalina Cruiser comes out of this race, but assuming he's good to go for the Pacific Classic, Accelerate could head to Saratoga. Regardless, Sadler has got a nice problem to wade through with these two.

Couple of odd things about #1 to me....
No lasix being added but he is adding Jamie Spencer who hasn't ridden him in at least the last 10 races.
Can he make the 120#s which is 15 off from his last race, a G3 victory going 7F at short odds.
15/1 has me a little intrigued.
Any of you across-the-ponders lend your expertise here?
thanks.

good for Cruiser! and whoa.... he is some big handsome beast! he was just full of himself when he was walking out from the barns to the paddock before the race - he had a really nice gallop out after he won too - this guy is going to be fun to watch the rest of the year!
For P6 players.....
What to do if you like 3 short priced favorites on the program.
For example;
5th...Swing Thoughts $7.00
7th...Mother Mother $3.20
9th...If You Like It $6.00
Well, apparently somebody was in that position and decided to buy all 12 horses in the 4th and caught Kentan Road @ $150.00
Then they bought all 12 horses in race 6 and caught Double Touch @ $60.80 by surviving a stewards inquiry.
And finally, they bought all 10 horses in the 8th and caught Catapult @ $44.00
The ticket cost was 12x1x12x1x10x1x$2 = $2,880.
Then they went to the cashiers line as the only winner and collected $119,107.80
The stars lined up.

I misread the article and thought Victor Espinoza had died but it was the horse. Hope Victor gets back soon. I hate Del Mar. Like my Uncle, I NEVER WIN playing Del Mar. It's a nice track although quite small and jam-packed. Solano Beach is close.
Love the area but hate playing Del Mar. I don’t have much luck with Saratoga either but at least I hit the Whitney with Blame beating Quality Road. Only race I remember winning playing Saratoga. Just waiting for Oak Tree.

Just waiting for Oak Tree.
Do you mean the recent Oak Tree at Pleasanton Fair Meet? Or do you have a time machine to take you back to when Hollywood Park held the Oak Tree meeting?
I sure wouldn't mind taking a trip back to the halcyon days of Hollywood Park's Oak Tree meet.
