The primary goal here seems to have been to add to his bottom and fitness, give him a good impression, I think he did well. It’s an effort that probably gave him a fair bit but that he can still improve upon. Also shows he is consistent since he earned a 101 for his Dwyer and a 100 here adding to his 106 UAE Derby. Speaking of is he the only 3yo to have earned triple digit BSFs for all his starts on dirt?
Are you referring to Mendelssohn here? He got a 99 BSF for his Travers run. Don't have the Derby #s in front of me, but he ran substantially lower than a triple digit fig there.
edit: unless you are talking Brisnet, not BSF... in that case he may have triple digits for all but the Derby.

As a gambler, how do you handicap a trainer who says their G1 horse isn't 100% before you bet your $2?

Just doesn't pass the smell test for me, I guess I'd rather that he lie like all the other trainers ;)
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Bypass the race. Can't handicap lies and hearsay, or maybe there's a stat for that.

Mendessohn earned a 100 for his Travers, Bravazo earned a 99. (And CB got 104). Not sure they assign Beyers to horses who are pulled up and eased so I guess that puts a line through his Derby, which I tend not to count but even if you want to count it that still puts him 3 for 4 on Dirt at triple digit BSFs.

DRF must have a typo on the beyer leaderboard then since they've got him listed with a 99. I agree on putting a line through the Derby, as is the case for many horses post-race.

Ah thanks maybe it was readjusted? The 100 was he initial figure that I saw.
I agree the Derby was for the vast majority of horses a toss. What a weird TC series and trail we had this year thinking back on it.

Also possible that it was adjusted upward and the leaderboard hasn't been updated.
Either way he ran a solid race.

Wow I would love to see him run in the JCGC! AOB keeps surprising me with him... I’m glad they decided to run him in one more before the Classic.

Same. I'm never going to be in a position to second guess AOB. I hope, however, that a successful plan doesn't include hustling him from the winners circle at the BC to a stallion barn. It would be hard to resist, given his pedigree and talent, but still...

Same here and I love that O’Brien is treating this as a new challenge and learning experience... I wonder if Coolmore will allow him to keep Mendy for another season. I imagine they’ll want to run him in the Pegasus at least.

Anyhow according to twitter, Mendelssohn is scheduled to arrive tomorrow at Belmont!

Thunder Snow arrived last Friday, cleared quarantine on Saturday and has already been out on the Belmont surface to get acquainted with the track. It's too bad Mendy didn't get to ship with TS, but I guess the thawing of relations between Godolphin and Coolmore hasn't yet gotten to the point that they'll share aircraft. :P

The JCGC is going to have quite an international presence, if Gronkowski, Mendelssohn and Thunder Snow all run. The BC Classic could be even more so, if Roaring Lion actually comes over and runs there, instead of in the Turf.

I'm really looking forward to the BEL card this Saturday... hopefully all the stakes draw nice sized fields. At minimum the JCGC should be really interesting with the overseas contingent signed on. I hope Mend and TS run well enough to go to the Classic, and if Roaring Lion shows then all the better.
This is what potentially happens when the TC winner retires early and the older males are not as clear cut: excellent races and betting opportunities.

The normally soft spoken and measured Aidan O’Brien is “over the moon” with Mendelssohn’s run in the JCGC.

Mr. New York thinking out loud this morning.....

Was the Travers a better race than some of us, myself included, thought, or is Mendelssohn an improving horse?

Is that the multimillion dollar question, or does this imply an opinion? Your use of "or" is throwing me off a bit. Both could be true. Please help me out a little :D

I genuinely believe he's an improving horse.
