Fillies and Mares - 2018
Cache a 3yo daughter of Distorted Humour just won her debut at Gulfstream in a loaded maiden. She ran going away in spite of running very greenly in the stretch, after having taken a lot of dirt to the face. One to watch.
The runner up, Takechargedelilah (by Take Charge Indy) also made a good account of herself and was far ahead of the rest of the field.

Unique Bella got her 2018 campaign off to a fine start by winning the 1 1/16-mile G2 Santa Maria in dominating fashion. Went to the front and improved her position. Definitely not just a sprinter.
Wrona remarked that all the field saw of 'Bella were her 'capacious hindquarters.' Also admired her '1,200-lb. horsepower' as she galloped past the wire.

She probably got that award because she really was the best 3-year-old, but she missed the most important races of the year. The Sprinter award was a consolation prize. I love the horse and think she’s awesome, but her winning the Sprinter award was a head scratcher.
Unique Bella had more raw ability than any other three-year-old filly last year but she really didn’t show herself to be a true racehorse as opposed to just a runner until the La Brea. Up until then she was rank in pretty much every race and when she won, it was because of more talent. She was awesome yesterday mainly because she showed she could relax on the lead and wasn’t just a bull in a china shop. The next step will be to see what happens when she comes up against Paradise Wood again but going two turns. I also suspect that Baffert is combing his barn for potential long-eared rodents for when Abel Tasman is put in against her.Izvestia wrote:She probably got that award because she really was the best 3-year-old, but she missed the most important races of the year. Vale Dori gave Paradise Woods all she could handle last year and Abel Tasman could improve with age. Not a bad one-two punch.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Have you seen any three-year-old fillies racing in California that are better than she is? Or even as good?
IMHO it's worth a try to see if she a Ky. Oaks filly.
