Majority interest in 2-time G3 winner Axelrod, the Pa. Derby runner-up, purchased by Phoenix Thoroughbreds
A majority interest in the 3-year-old colt Axelrod, a two-time Grade 3 winner who most recently was second in the Grade 1 Pennsylvania Derby, has been sold to Phoenix Thoroughbreds by original owner Slam Dunk Racing, which will retain a minority interest in the colt, according to Nick Cosato, who heads the Slam Dunk partnership.

Axelrod won the Indiana Derby and Smarty Jones, both Grade 3 races, prior to the Pennsylvania Derby. He also was second in the Grade 3 Affirmed Stakes in June. He is based at Santa Anita with trainer Michael McCarthy.

According to Cosato, "Michael gets to keep the horse."

Lukas? Give a horse time off?
Be still my heart!
Ask Serena's Song.
He ran her until she told him to lay off by running along the outside rail in some Gr 1 race.

‘Mild’ Fever Forces Catholic Boy To Skip Planned Workout
....According to drf.com, ....the son of More Than Ready missed a planned workout this past weekend at Belmont Park due to a fever.
“It's very minor in the grand scheme of things,” said trainer Jonathan Thomas. “He had a mild temperature, which has since rectified. We just didn't want to take any chances.

He's such an interesting horse, with top form on both dirt and turf, so I hope this doesn't compromise his prep for the Classic. But with only four weeks to go, any disturbance of a horse's training schedule isn't a good thing. :?

I think he's got more than enough time, but then again I don't train racehorses.

Go Catholic Boy!

I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

That was a pretty bad second by Audible, although he was bizarrely wide and the track is a mess. Still should have finished well-clear of those horses.
