I'm glad to see the DWC on a downward spiral and I hope the Pegasus finishes them off. I have been dead set against it since they switched to syth. Whatever surface they use now won't change my opinion of the place...........

Meydan switched back to dirt two or three years ago, so your synth hate is out of touch?

He did elaborate saying he doesn't care what they use now.

Genuinely curious -- are you dead set against all of the SoCal tracks, too, and wherever else switched to synth and then back?
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!

I imagine most people probably feel poorly about Cali.

Har, fair. I like both coasts and the racing they offer. That's what I get for being from the middle.

The surface switch showed their true colors, no matter that they switched back. They used American star horses to create and legitimize the DWC, then had the balls to switch to a surface our best horses don't like. So screw them, I hope the Pegasus moves out another month and keeps our best horses away...........

Didn't Animal Kingdom win the DWC on synthetic?

Some of the biggest tracks in the US did the same thing, though. There was a point in time that it looked as if US racing would just go that way entirely. I mean, your prerogative to dislike it, it just seems like a non-sequitur.

I'd rather see two awesome races happening each year than whittling it down to one, though. I'll take a Pegasus AND a DWC, please. :D

You're picking a freak on all surfaces to prove the point?
Not that I do or don't agree with Rick, but AK was in some place all to himself.

I was actually just asking a question as I couldn't remember the exact years that the DWC was run on synthetic. Given your reaction, I assume that Animal Kingdom did win it on synthetic and given Rick's premise, I suppose there is some irony there. I highly doubt that any track management installed a synthetic track for some nefarious reason. They were rushed into use in CA before any real research was done. I don't really care about the DWC one way or the other, I don't think I've ever bet it and only have watched it live once or twice. It's a different topic but I have far more of a problem with the Breeder's Cup as I think that has had a far more negative effect on the sport.

The Sheikh and his advisors thought synths were the wave of the future. A very expensive wrong guess.

The bloom was already off syth when the Sheikh had it installed. My premise was he installed it to give his own horses and other Euros a better chance at the big prize. Which is when I decided I wanted our horses to stay home..........

I thought the same thing when I read Som's post. I thought I was the only one who liked him so much.
