Mentioned PA Derby after the race.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Just saw a headline at DRF that Classic Empire will not run in the PA derby but cannot access article---can anyone here access DRF??

By the way I am not one bit surprised but saddened that we are not going to see this fine horse show his stuff

From the Paulick Report:
“We're not going to make the Pennsylvania Derby,” Casse said. “He's doing fine, but I still haven't got him where I want him. We're going along, playing it day by day. I'm not going to worry about a race. I want to get him where I'm happy with him.”

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they just run him in the Classic off the layoff.

I'm not sure when Coolmore bought his breeding rights, but I suspect they were expecting to be retiring a multiple-graded stakes winner at the end of this year, and moving him right into the breeding shed next spring.
I wonder if they'll be patient and let him race next year?

Yes, he is. Perhaps I should have worded that differently.
I imagine they were hoping for several graded stakes victories this year from the two-year-old champ.

Unfortunately this seems to be the reality setting in. I truly believe hes the best of this crop, but unless they can be patient and wait until next year... well I'm not holding my breath.

Always Dreaming to Enter Stud at WinStar Farm
2017 Kentucky Derby winner will join stallion roster upon retirement.
inStar Farm has acquired the breeding rights to Always Dreamingand will stand the 2017 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner upon his retirement.

Always Dreaming was shipped from Saratoga Race Course to WinStar earlier this week for a planned freshening and exam at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital. A decision on whether he will stand stud in 2018 or 2019 will be made following an exam by Dr. Larry Bramlage.

It was right after the Preakness. From what I recall the way it was reported, Mr. Oxley didn't sound in a hurry to retire him or even planning on retiring him after this season but was interested in securing his future. I don't see why Coolmore would be in a rush to get him into the shed for 2018 given how he's tailed off, however I imagine they'd want him on the roster for 2019 before American Pharoah's first crop really starts running.
