Masochistic may be done for the year. :(

It feels like the gelding was hit with bad luck (not of his own making) during what may have been his prime. I hope he can return in top form, but...at eight? :?

Kobe's Back is back in the Kona Gold at Santa Anita this weekend.

I hope he does well, although Baffert's Lord Simba seems to be the sharp horse right now.

Another fine grey is coming back to the races. :D

I'm happy that his connections are giving the full brother of Creative Cause a chance to prove that he'll be even better at four. We had enough three-year-old colts retired last year, so it's nice to see Destin is still going to race. Hope he does well.

I hadn't heard from Destin in so long I assumed he had been retired.

I hope the time off did him some good and he has a good season.

Destin ran third. Looked like he tired in the stretch, so I'm hoping he improves off this race.

Wonder if those 2 BB horses worked together? Next race for each? Who will take on Gun Runner in Stephen Foster?

IIRC, the Met Mile has been mentioned for Mor Spirit. And neither colt may want to face Gun Runner, who is looking formidable, especially after this latest work.

The Steve Asmussen trainee breezed through fractions of :12 1/5, :24 1/5, :36 and :47 4/5 before galloping out six furlongs in 1:12 and seven furlongs in 1:25 1/5.

The infamous Lani was 17th of 18 in the Meguro Kinen over 2500m on turf yesterday at Tokyo. I guess they were experimenting with the surface/distance, though it doesn't look like it worked. Though he ~somewhat~ got 2400m in the Belmont.

IMHO, the owners are pissing into the wind with that colt.
Every race I've seen him in this year, he has combined the unlovely attributes of being dangerous to load, and then being uninterested in running when he leaves the gate.
He breaks slowly, lags behind the field, barely passes tiring horses in the stretch...and really seems to have no inclination to try running faster.
If he were an American horse (or Aussie, British or Hong Kong), he'd have been gelded, like, early last year. :P

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Injury to keep Connect out of Met Mile
ELMONT, N.Y. – Connect, who most likely would have been favored, will miss the Grade 1, $1.2 million Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park on June 10 with an injury, trainer Chad Brown said Wednesday afternoon.

“Connect has unfortunately emerged from his last workout with a minor injury that will keep him out of the Met Mile,” Brown said. “We are currently doing further diagnostics on the colt to determine his racing future.”

Connect’s most recent workout was a half-mile in 49.20 seconds over the Belmont Park main track on May 21. He had been scheduled to work last weekend, but didn’t.

Connect, a 4-year-old son of Curlin, emerged as a potential star last year by winning the Grade 2 Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing and Grade 1 Cigar Mile at Aqueduct to end a 3-year-old campaign in which he went 5 for 6. His lone loss came when he finished sixth to Arrogate in the Travers and emerged from the race with a lung infection.

That's unfortunate. And we lost another older horse yesterday with Imperative also being sidelined until later this year.

Bal a Bali (BRZ) just won the G1 Shoemaker Mile in (if I heard correctly) 1:32.1. :o
It looks like Calumet made a wise choice when they acquired him as a stallion.
