6 horses? $1 million?

Can I get into the gate too?

That's what, 21 total horses in the three big preps? Yeesh.

Dortmund will probably take this, but now is the time to see if Prospect Park and Bolo are for real. Also, Bad Read Sanchez is clearly the best name in the crop and the Derby should probably be conceded to him.

No wonder Baffert entered One Lucky Dane, he has a good chance of running 1-2 here. I'm not quite sure who else I expected to be in here but I think the most exciting thing about this race is seeing how Dortmund stretches out to 1 1/8.

Will be interesting to see what Baffert does/says if he gets the points. One Lucky Dane is a pretty fast horse...

Dortmund looking to remain unblemished in Santa Anita Derby

Saturday's $1 million Santa Anita Derby (G1) features a rematch between the top three finishers in the March 7 San Felipe (G2), including race winner Dortmund (Big Brown), who was made the 3-5 morning line favorite to remain undefeated going into next month's Kentucky Derby (G1).

I think this field is the only one this weekend with 4 legitimate Derby-caliber horses. I'm all over the Bolo/Dortmund Exacta Box.

I agree, but give Bolo the edge here. Think he really moves forward off the last one, where he was short (and maybe moved a tad early) and cost me a bunch not being able to hold for second. Runs a new top here, and then is a bet against in the Derby?

I'm going to play a dime super and still lose money, but it will be fun. :)
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Dortmund is my main man. Wouldn't mind seeing One Lucky Dane or Bolo grab second.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!

Can't blame him with that Dynamic Duo he got. He was dealt a couple of Aces and daring anyone to Call him.

They are some nice horses, I don't dispute that. Just think Baffert is a pain in the ass. Would be nice to see someone upset him...although it isn't likely with those two.

Very surprised that One Lucky Dane didn't go to the Wood given Baffert's support (and success) of that race in the past and he has Dortmund in here. Is Dane going to be used to give Dortmund some pace? If so it's a shame the big guy drew the rail. Interesting tactics here but it's Dortmund's race to lose. I'm not sure how Bolo or Prospect park will make up the difference. They could be in for a bigger margin of defeat.

I think Dortmund has the most talent here, he's already proven that IMO, and I think if the rest can beat him or not depends on how he handles this bit of extra distance. Bolo should improve off the San Felipe but Dortmund was pulling away from him pretty nicely and I'm not sure yet if he really wants dirt or turf. He's run 3 of 4 races on turf, his sire was a turf horse, and IMO he looked better over the turf. But then again, the San Felipe was his first back off a lay off and his works on the dirt look good. One Lucky Dane could be very dangerous on the front end and his last out was impressive. Prospect Park should be fine with the extra distance, he was closing nicely in the San Felipe, but I think he's a cut below in talent. Interesting to note, One Lucky Dane beat Prospect Park very easily last year in their only meeting and on this track, but that was also Prospect Park's first race and he's improved since that.

I actually like Prospect Park a lot. I don't know if he has what it takes, but if he's gonna do it, this might be the time. He'll be a bit of a higher price - or looks to be - and I dislike that rail for Dortmund with One Lucky Dane outside of him. Of course, that hasn't exactly stopped him before.

Bolo could go either way for me. Use or don't use at your own peril type of thing.

Other than possibly One Lucky Dane, it looks like the same top 3 as their previous race, the San Felipe.
