Oh no! Something told me to check back at this site! My thoughts and prayers are with WD and all his good folks. This is horrible news!

Damnit. Hope he makes it through ok.

Career over, though. Sad we never got to see him run the rest of the year.

I didn't see that he's retired in the linked article. Was it somewhere else? Colic surgery doesn't usually end a horse's racing career.

Hope his recovery is uneventful.
Given his age and his conservative owners/trainer, I cannot see them bringing him back to the track after this. "He's done enough" as they say.

Very shocked, just read about this on Racing Post. I hope the surgery goes well and he gets to enjoy a happy life. I'm sure his owner will retire him after this, all he cares about is the horse's good and that means giving him a retirement before something worse happens, any way he's already done all his owners could have asked of him.

we all know dan has nothing else to prove - that last race where he laid it all down and fought for that win... much respect for him and his will to get the job done - he has done more than enough - his health and happiness come first of course - i can only imagine the heart ache his human family is going thru right now... worrying about their beloved dan - praying he comes thru his surgery like the champ he is and makes a full and complete recovery - dan and his family will be on my mind all day today - praying hard we hear good news soon

"WISE DAN UPDATE:He is still in surgery, but LoPresti called to say it's the best case scenario for colic, nothing had to be resected. If he recovers from it well, they're thinking 6 or 8 weeks off at the most," said LoPresti, added this shouldn't be career-ending"

I'm seriously surprised. I guess we will wait and see if he actually makes it there, though.

I don't care if he ever races again. At age 7 with 6 Eclipse Awards which include two Horse of the Year awards what more does he have to prove. I just want him to live. Please. Equine Gods - you don't have room for another national racing treasure. Let him stay here on earth with us and enjoy a well-deserved retirement where he'll be spoiled rotten. PLEASE?

Sending good thoughts to Wise Dan and his connections. Feel better soon, big guy.
