I agree with LoPresti.

They finally decided to do something about their "main track" graded stakes races being rendered irrelevant on the national landscape.

But where will Ramsey run all his future candidates to finish 15th in the Derby?

Was Keeneland's dirt surface so unsafe that this change is that gravitational?

Yes, previous dirt surface at KEE was bad.

I recall a bias but not more fatalities.

Are there stats for this?

This is cow-towing to handicappers who couldn't be bothered to learn to handicap the surface. And they want the BC. Good luck with that.

It definitely gives them a higher priority than safety.

Since it was so bad maybe you'll find me some quantifable evidence on it. I seem unable to.

Somehow I think air is deleterious to LoPresti's horses. One sentence out of context is hardly one worth using as proof.

I also agree with LoPresti. But I can see why they are doing it.

Do you think the sports drug policies should also be steered by what trainers and owners want?

I have absolutely no feelings about this, but if everybody hated the surface, why was the average field size (and for that matter, handle) so high last year?

Bottom line is that all Keeneland G1 races are on the verge of losing there G1 status because they don't attract G1 horses. Look at the probable for the Blue Grass ,Ashland and Madison. They had no choice.
Hoist the Flag was the best horse I ever rode, by far... It wasn't Seattle Slew.

Really? These races are on the verge of losing their G1 status? Who knew?
I guess a race that produces duds like Groupie Doll should prolly be downgraded.

Sounds good as long as that awful inside speed bias dosn't return. I used to feel that Keeneland was a fantastic place to visit and watch racing, despite the drunks, but that the racing itself was boring. Sinister Minister was the poster boy for everything wrong with the track.

I absolutely hated the old, biased Keeneland dirt surface as a horseplayer and as a fan of fair-and-balanced horse racing and have made serious efforts to adjust to synthetic -- to the point that I'd now rather bet Keeneland and Woodbine than most dirt tracks. People are going to spin the safety issue on both sides, so I'll stay out of that fight, but speaking strictly as a recreational horseplayer, this is a sad day, and one I feel is a precursor to several more sad days as the promise of all-weather tracks dies a quick death on this continent.

I'm just licking my lips in anticipation of those nine-horse fields shrinking to four or five because the dirt track is sloppy instead of remaining at nine because the synthetic surface isn't affected by a little rain.

Keeneland likely will become part of the Santa Anita, Churchill, Gulfstream, and Keeneland Breeders Cup rotation. This was all about the Breeders Cup and their sales workouts. Good decision.

LoPresti can run his horses up at Woodbine. :-)
