Re: 2019 Belmont Stakes

I thought the True North might be too short for Catalina Cruiser but he was good enough to get the job done. I'm interested to see what he can do in the handicap division now that he is out of Accelerate's shadow.

And nobody's perfect, but geez, that was an awful ride by Smith on McKinzie.

Re: Belmont Stakes Race Day Card

Favorite winners of the day:

World of Trouble -- He's so, so good. I don't know if there is anyone in this country who can beat him going under a mile, regardless of surface.

Guarana -- I had been hearing about this impressive maiden winner and she absolutely is the real deal.

Re: 2019 Belmont Stakes

Not trying to talk you off a horse, as this race is wide open. But breeding has to jive with track performance. Intrepid has only had 3 races, and in the Peter Pan he only carried a mere 116 pounds, was running at less distance but was weaving and leg weary from what I could see. I would not want t...

Would you be able to download the NYRA Now app? You can watch the track feed there.

ETA: With Deirdre overseas, I wish Aerolithe had made the list. She's been trying so hard and had some very gallant seconds.
Agreed!

Also, thank you to Tachyon for the detailed explanation re: Almond Eye and the Yasuda Kinen.

Re: 2019 Belmont Stakes

I liked Tax going into the Derby because I really liked his foundation and router's pedigree. So you'd think I would be all over him for this race but no. After the so-so work and now a stone bruise... I'll pass. War of Will and Tacitus are obvious contenders, but I might go with Intrepid Heart for ...

3 for 3 with GSWs, 2 G1SWs. Her 4yo filly, My Sister Nat, a G3SW in France is currently training toward her US debut.
Thanks for the update on My Sister Nat. I do really fancy that they have bred Starlet's Sister to different stallions; it seems she crosses well with just about everyone.

Re: The 'Runs Like a Girl' thread

I was just reading about Belvoir Bay. The Jaipur is one of the best races on the card; right up there with the Belmont and Met Mile for me. I'm very pleased it was finally awarded grade I status.

Re: Photos/News about Broodmares

I know horses generally do OK in cold weather, but doesn't a 21-year-old champion deserve a bit more shelter than an open shed? What's her age and record got to do with it? She's a horse. And one that appears to have a nice, thick winter coat. I'm sure when the weather is nasty and cold she ...

I think Zarkallani beat maybe one or two horses. They threw him in the deep end too soon.
It would appear so.

Sottsass was impressive though. And I hadn't realized he was the younger brother of Sistercharlie! What a nice producer Starlet's Sister has turned out to be.

Just watched Ria Amelia's race. Already there's Almond Eye comparisons.
I caught the replay on Twitter a couple hours ago. She really could not have won any easier.
