Re: Zenyatta News

Such a shame that two of the best mares in the last several years have only a handful of foals each. Rachel has two and Zen has three.

Rotten luck I suppose, different reasons for each mare, but it really stinks that neither of them have had much luck as a broodmare.

Re: Final Derby Picks

With it raining and wet, I am thinking it will move up the Curlin's. He loved the mud and many of his kiddos have as well.

But I love Mendelssohn and believe that great horses overcome obstacles, so even if he doesn't like the wet track, he should overcome it, if he is as good as I believe he is.

Re: Mendelssohn

I absolutely love this horse and I think he is set to blow their doors off. I also was a huge fan of Beholder. There are firsts for everything, and I think he is something so special, that curses, jinx's, whatever people might worry about will not affect him. I might be crying afterwards, but I don'...

Curlin has some fantastic mares foaling this year. Makes me happy that he is such a success as a sire.

Re: 2018 foals

That person on twitter is a twit.

Look at the picture, her legs are not the size of her dam's. The foals' knees are like 6 inches below her mom's.....

Some people really must think everyone else just fell off the melon wagon to believe the garbage they spout.....

Re: Lady Eli

Years ago, and maybe there still is, there was a breeders book that came out every year that had the name and address of all the major breeders and owners in the sport. If you could track that down perhaps that would help. The Keeneland Library is also very helpful with locating information you migh...

Re: Lady Eli

Honestly if you are able to write to them and explain how much you like her, you might be pleasantly surprised. I loved Alydar more than anything in the world, I wrote to Margaret Glass, who used to be the secretary at the farm, sent her a long sappy letter, and a poem, which she went over like a te...

I am, too!! I love, love, love this guy. I honestly don't think running on dirt again with bother him, he has a good dirt pedigree. Remember how wonderful Barbaro was, and he was able to run on dirt and grass with equal class? or Secretariat, who could win on dirt and turf. There have been lots of o...

I love Alydar more than anything. Thank you for the wonderful story.

Re: Mendelssohn

I would have to agree, he is simply stunning. I remember when I was able to visit Johannesburg at Coolmore before he began his stud career. Scat Daddy was a favorite as well, loved his coloring. Put that together with being a half to Beholder and he is just awesome in my book. Not sure when the Epso...

Re: Stallion News

Where that model fails spectacularly though, is that it doesn't take into account that horses are not numbers, and while thoroughbred breeding and racing is a business it's also an art form, and short term losses can me long term gains (just as short term gains can be long term losses). Plus, espec...

Re: Louisiana Derby (G2) - 03/24/18

Many of these farms don't have any patience with young stallions and want a quick buck, only to regret it later. I hope they bring him back home, but like others said it will cost more money, but that is the price you pay for jumping the gun on him. Perhaps another Kentucky breeding farm will try an...

Re: 2018 foals

My husband and I were watching the La Verdad feed and he said the foal looked like she needed an enema to him, and he has worked with mares and foals for over 20 years. He said it looked like it needed to relieve itself but was having a hard time. He said it's a pretty routine thing with foals. Just...

Re: 2018 foals

Since I've never had the distinct honor... Does a newborn foal have the equivalent of "puppy breath" or that "new baby" smell? I like to think its like puppy mixed with fresh hay. Neither have I, but my husband has, and he says, yes they do have the equivalent of "puppy breath". They are just so ad...
