Re: Stallion News

Empire Maker was a very good stallion, sold to Japan, pretty much a bust there and thankfully brought back. When he sold there many people were quite surprised as he was not struggling as a sire. Many of the European horses imported had a lot to do with a few world wars and their owners preferring t...

Re: Stallion News

Is it any wonder these stallions produce less than stellar results when many of our stellar bloodstock goes to other countries? Keep sending off our top tier horses, mares, stallions, yearlings. When you’re using 2nd rate bloodstock, expect 2nd rate results. Pretty simple. Sure we have some good hor...

Re: Stallion News

Thanks for the update Ridan. My heart breaks to know our champion is gone to another country. It’s been a rough year and following Chrome has been a bright spot in it. Just wish he was appreciated in his home country.

Re: Stallion temperament or personality

From my experience not only genetics, but how horses are treated when they are foals. Some farms handle foals from day one, and treat them with kindness, but set guidelines. These guys usually grow into sensible adults. Other farms are rough, or just total are devoid of human contact. These foals gr...

Re: California Chrome to Japan

His 1/2 brother by Tapit seems to be doing quite well as. 2 year old and is entered in a stakes race Saturday. Funny for those who poo-poo his family, or lack thereof, his little 1/2 brother impressed Coolmore enough to go to 1.1 million to purchase him and now he is having quite a nice 2 year old s...

Re: California Chrome to Japan

Why is this so hard to understand? How would Japanese fans act if every year a foreign country came and purchased a portion of their national champions, classics winners, and fan favorites? How about one of our rich farms go purchase Almond Eye, Orfevre (who has had less breeder interest), Kitasan B...

Re: California Chrome to Japan

Thank you for the links Ridan. Wonderful article which I makes me feel that not everyone in this industry is so cold and uncaring. Many on this site are so dismissive and demeaning of those of us who are upset Chrome and so many of our other champions, male and female, are sold to Japan. We’re told ...

Re: Homozygous grey stallions

Parseghian has a 2/10 temperament according to his stallion listing. What does that mean, that he’s laid back or a fire breather?

Re: California Chrome to Japan

But I do see TM's need to make money. ...I feel caught in the middle. I my opinion, TM figured they had a gravy train, and jumped into things not horse related; a golf course, restaurant, wedding venue, etc. But by selling the only draw for fans to their farm, that big red horse, if things were goi...

Re: California Chrome to Japan

Let me first say that I have great respect for the Japanese and their culture. I worked most of my career for Nissan and then Toyota at their national headquarters in the Los Angeles area before each company moved their HQ to other states. Let me also say that I fully understand the business aspect...

Re: California Chrome to Japan

Good for the Japanese, but not for our breeding industry, but then again Americans are foolish and impatient and are worried about a quick buck, not the long term. That’s why this Japanese are successful. They are patient and NEVER sell. Read the article on the Yoshida’s. They look on us as fools. A...

Re: Stallion News

I think something like this here in Kentucky would be nice, they used to do this in years past, but now with the horse farm tours that charge to visit the farms, I doubt they would do this again. Our family used to go and it was nice to visit the farms and see our heroes. Not everything has to cost ...

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?

While I am saddened that this beautiful animal is gone, it is part of the sport, just as in car races, crashes are part of the sport and sometimes people lose their lives. They know the risk but still participate. It may sound flippant or uncaring, but there is no way to make this sport 100% breakdo...

He reminds me very much of his broodmare sire Van Nistelrooy, who I always thought was a lovely boy.

He is gorgeous! :D
