Re: prayers for my family please

Condolences to you and your family, Flanders. It's always tough to lose a loved one, and really hard to deal with when they're so young.

US tourists caught carving names into Rome’s Colosseum

And took a selfie to commemorate their feat, of course.
Unbelievable.

Re: Resource guarding

I don't know if this will help, since it's just anecdotal experience, but... When my dog Riley was a young puppy there were a couple instances where he growled when my other dog or I got near his food bowl while he was eating. I figured it was best to nip this in the bud, so the next time he did it ...

Simply despicable. I hope the toxicology tests reveal something that can help to hunt down the sick individual who poisoned Jagger.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I'm still coming to terms with all of this. What a way to start out the New Year. It can only get better from here, right?

Re: The VENT Thread

Eight days after my Dad's shocking and unexpected death, my family just lost Dad's brother, Uncle Claude, yesterday. This is in addition to losing Claude's wife, my Aunt Betty, in mid-December. Three elder members of my family are gone now, in the span of only one month and eight days. What has our ...

Re: The VENT Thread

We sent Dad off on his next journey today in a manner that spoke to who he was. The table with the flowers and urn holding half of his ashes was staged with his tools, the sailing hat he wore outside, his rain slicker, fishing pole and work gloves. Dad's 13-foot, beat-up old Boston Whaler was towed ...

Re: The VENT Thread

I am so sorry for your loss, Islandgirl. Losing a parent is the end of an era, no matter how old they are, no matter how old you are at the time. It really is. For me, Dad was a living link to history in our hometown...all the old stories of how things used to be. I wrote this in his obituary: He g...

Re: The VENT Thread

I lost my Dad Wednesday. A man I often disagreed with, but loved dearly, and would have moved heaven and Earth to help. A friend called shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday to tell me she'd left three messages on his cell phone since about 10 am that morning, but he hadn't responded. That's not like him ...

She hung around the east central coast of Florida last year for a few months and even came within a few miles of shore, which excited the TV stations. :)

Re: Happiness

It happened--I'm being published! Not the short story or my horror novel but my 22,000 word novella, "Behind the Velvet Curtain", the story of a male stripper stalked by a fan. Comet Press just sent me a contract saying they absolutely loved it! I can't believe it--I'm over the moon! I'm an author!...

Re: Am I a Snob? Why I Don’t Like Doodle Dogs

I think paying purebred prices for a mutt is stupid. You want a mix breed, go to a shelter and adopt one. Yes, and you would be surprised all the pure breeds as well in shelters. Many years ago the owner of a local pet supply store told me about someone she knew who had taken her red standard poodl...

You know, that's a great marketing idea for shelters. Maybe many already do that.

Re: Am I a Snob? Why I Don’t Like Doodle Dogs

I like this paragraph ... :) Firstly, the idea of crossing Labradors, cocker spaniels, golden retrievers and almost any other breed with the poodle to produce the perfect combination of both breeds in conjunction with a hypoallergenic coat is most definitely a fad whose marketing scheme is nothing m...
