Re: Santa Anita 2019

Anybody want some "fun," Google "PETA kills animals." Several of the results are from the same situation, but overall I think the figures are not rebutted. I don't understand why they don't get more blowback. I can tell you that if they are at SA tomorrow, I'm going to ask in a loud voice. I'd rathe...

Re: Santa Anita 2019

I don't remember--why was no serious thought given to moving the dates to Los Al? Or was there? I vaguely recall that it would have required some lag time but surely if both parties agreed to the shift. . .?

Re: Santa Anita 2019

Curtis, I think the spike in breakdowns IS due to the rain. And it is up to SA's management to figure out why and what needs to be done with the track now and in the future to make it safe in all conditions, whether that means big changes in maintenance or simply cancelling if there are days of rain...

Re: Santa Anita 2019

To amplify, as the Czarina of Stupidland, I would have kept the focus on the track, stressing it's safety as recently as November and pointing to the weather variant. I would NOT have bought into PETA's playbook by adopting "remedies" that imply that drugs(legal or otherwise) and/or trainers working...

Re: Santa Anita 2019

I just feel that I am living in Stupidland. As I posted earlier the SA track was fine all through November. Winter, they had problems. What had changed? RAIN! Much more than this track had ever received since rebuilt. I will readily agree that the constant sealing probably detrimentally affected th...

I saw Affirmed as a four year old at Santa Anita. An honor.

Re: Matings 2019

it isn't Candy Ride a big horse? I love him but I thought they were trying to minimize Big Z's size with handier stallions. But he does infuse some quickness (other than Game Winner. :-( ). I think Union Rags is also pretty big?

Re: Santa Anita 2019

Well, IMO PETA is largely made up of people who don't particularly like animals, but really don't like people.

Re: 2019 Three-Year-Olds

How far did Game Winner work, geesh. Jay Privman ‏@DRFPrivman I mprobable looked super going 5f in 59.20 with big gallop out under @DraydenV. "He's ready," said Baffert. Will run in Rebel at Oaklawn next Sat. Mucho Gusto fast 5f in 57.80 on Baffert watch, likely to await Sunland Derby. Game Winner ...

Re: Santa Anita 2019

It won't have been a court's gag order. Probably just told him they'd refuse access if he didn't "cooperate" (which is arguably bad enough).

Re: Santa Anita 2019

I do see the point that if the surface is not safe in heavy rain, they're either going to have to fix it or abandon the practice of repeated sealing. Of course it will probably be ten years (or never!) before we get another winter as relentlessly wet as this one. But I stand by the position that onc...

Re: Santa Anita 2019

Look, I'm as concerned as anyone, but wasn't last year very safe for SA? What's the difference? RAIN. Lots of it. Hollywood Park ran in late spring to fall when there is rarely much rain--it could be that the (in)famous El Segundo sand is not well suited to lots of rain. I don't see any reason to p...

Re: Santa Anita 2019

I wonder if anyone just thought of moving the races to Los Alamitos, at least the weekend card? The San Felipe and Big Cap (assuming they ever get run) will be laughable fields.
