Re: 2019 Kentucky Derby

Is this really devastating and something people should be "gutted" over? The horse is alive and well. We don't need Monmouth tweeting that they send their condolences. This sport has issues. I think "condolences" is not an appropriate word, but I'd be devastated and gutted. I'm sitting here with a ...

The problem is spotting the .1%. ;)
You’ve stumbled upon one of the great truisms of human existence. I may bite....but I’ve had all my shots.😉
I do tend to stumble upon things. Two days ago I stumbled over the dogs and broke my wrist.

Long Island Sound has a great shoulder.
Thought the same. Very regal posing--I never understand publicizing your stallion with a head-down, sleepy photo!

Re: Roadster

The problem is spotting the .1%. ;) I prefer Game Winner of the Bafferts. I thought Roadster's return was really good, considering the doubts raised by his disappointing DM Futurity, and his kick in the SA Derby impressed me. I just think he has the potential to be discombobulated by a big field and...

You'd think some of the East and Midwest trainers and owners who claim to be hay, oats and water fans would be shipping strings to SA. :(

Re: Master Fencer(JPN) to Kentucky Derby

If they're going to offer guaranteed slots for Japan and Europe (not to mention the UAE Derby) why not include one for the highest-ranked filly? Well, because there isn't a potential "bet on fillies" market to be mined. Otherwise it would make just as much sense.

Re: Kentucky Derby Top 5

Contrarian that I am, I like Game Winner. I hope he's been brought along slowly to peak the first Saturday in May. I think Roadster might run into conditioning issues although "two preps" is a mantra. The one thing I don't like about Omaha Beach is that he was fairly beaten by Nolo Contesto, who did...

Re: Kentucky Derby Top 5

Thanks for the anecdote, Curtis--Quack was a son of my first favorite, T.V. Lark. I was touched to hear Caton Bredar say recently that perhaps her all-time favorite was another offspring of T.V. Lark, the wonderful gray filly Pink Pigeon!

I definitely remember Quack losing a photo--I think in the Hollywood Gold Cup to Kennedy Road (I almost wrote "Quality Road"). He was very talented but unsound as heck.

It's a tough game if you can't make it at the top level. I haven't thought about Kevin Krigger in years but that's on me. He was a decent rider who apparently couldn't crack through.

Re: Santa Anita Derby

I feel that Game Winner has been ridden very conservatively which may play into his wide trips "I'm on the best horse, so. . ." I also think that was more true of Improbable in the Rebel, as Drayden Van Dyke rode him as if he couldn't lose. I loved Game Winner last fall but I'm rather tepid at this ...
