Re: Siblings (and offspring) of well-known horses
Yes--Mike Pegram has most of the good 'Lutes, oddly enough, whether bred or bought (Midnight Lucky).

Re: Siblings (and offspring) of well-known horses
GSW Govenor Charlie (Midnight Lute x Silverbulletway, x Silverbulletday) returns Wednesday at Santa Anita after his abortive Preakness effort. Its a NW2x with Fury Kapcori, Holy Candy, Little Jerry, and Batti Man.

Re: Missing SA stakes
Thanks, that's good to know. I guess it makes some sense to shrink the Strub series, as a series for 4 year olds just shrank the older males & mares fields.

Missing SA stakes
The San Fernando (1 1/16) prep for the Strub is gone and the latter moved up and shortened from 1 1/8 to 1 1/16. The San Juan Capistrano seems to be gone too. :( I know it didn't get the greatest of fields, but it was always fun to watch and the traditional end of the meeting feature. Perhaps it wil...

Re: BC Juvy winner NEW YEAR'S DAY retired
Yeah, I don't get the sniffs of indifference. He won the Juvy with a strong rail run off marginal preparation and has a pedigree to die for. I was excited to see him move forward and am very sorry for this news.

Re: Siblings (and offspring) of well-known horses
Five Palms, by UBS x Ema Bovary (Chi), a multiple spring GSW, passed his first allowance condition nicely Thursday at Santa Anita. He's now 2 for 3 with a placing. He only cost $80,000 and didn't start until fall of 2013 at 3, so he must not have been the prettiest UBS, but he is developing well.

Re: Maibu Stakes (Grade 1) - 12/26/13
Well, my show bet on SIU made up for the losing one on Flashback! He really did look like dad coming back to the winner's circle, big, lanky and dark--except where he was plastered with sand from the kickback! David Flores (glad for him too) had a real mask of sand on his lower face when he took his...

Re: Maibu Stakes (Grade 1) - 12/26/13
This is a really interesting field. I think Santa Anita has the on-track "Strub Series" contest where you get to pick five horses in this race--and I have ZERO confidence that I can find the winner in 5 chances!

Re: Vote:How Will Vic Stauffer Treat Hollywood Park's Last C
I'm another one who is more upset than I thought I would be. I think I'm still in denial.
Trust Barnfour to turn praise of Vic into an attack on Denman, and trust mcwhatever to turn this thread into a rant in Trevor's favor! Plus ca change. . .

He's not quite high-profile enough maybe, but I would love to see how she matches up with Candy Ride.

We should also remember several posters who have left, sometimes without comment--people who were some of the most enthusiastic members, which of course made them targets for derision. And how many other people rarely post, possibly reluctant to expose themselves to the bullies.

Re Tap It Rich--I know they do something called "chemical castration" for rapists and perverts--I think its reversible, so maybe an option? I agree with others--I've never seen a horse from a competent barn run such an out-of-control race. Mike Smith may say "Shove your Derby dreams, I wan...

Re: 2 year olds of 2013
Nice debut win by Midnight Hawk, Midnight Lute x. Miss Wineshine, by over 6 lengths at the tough distance of about 7 1/2 furlongs at BHP. He's a half to the quick minor SW Mayor Marv. Homebred for Mike Pegram.

Re: CashCall Futurity
Possibly true, but he usually isn't fast enough to pass all of those in front of him, either. I think Kobe's Back is just too slow although he may improve second off the layoff;Shared Belief was visually awesome last time out and rebroke in the stretch. And NEVER toss the Baffert. (See latest exampl...

Re: Hollywood Park Visit
My memories focus on the 60's and Native Diver when I was just a kid fan, but I also saw Gamely, Damascus, and lots of other good horses. . .for some reason I got out of going for quite a while but was back for Lava Man and of course saw Zenyatta's last victory there. . .I don't think its really hit...
Re: Starlet
The BHP track can be tiring at routes and doesn't produce fast times as a rule. Streaming's time would have placed her third in the G2 Bayakoa later in the card, is another way of looking at it; that was a race in which the winner ran lights out on the lead.

A poster on another board was talking up The Admiral, who debuts Saturday at BHP--by Giant's Causeway x Sassy Pants, thus a half brother to Madcap Escapade and Dubai Escapade. We'll see. One of two Bafferts in the race, but Martin Garcia is on the other one. . .
