The $700K Kitten's Joy colt who sold today went to Shadwell. I think they've bought 2 or 3 by him.
I would love to see more Kittens running abroad.
Especially in Europe. They've proven that they can hold their own anywhere.

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

The first lawsuit is being considered by the trainer of the runner up https://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/horses/horse-racing/2019/09/12/bolt-doro-trainer-says-lawsuit-possible-over-justify-santa-anita-win/2303812001/ I completely forgot that Bolt D'oro finished 2nd. If anyone is willing t...

Re: Across the pond

Crystal Ocean has been retired after suffering a severe injury on the gallops today. I can't access racingpost.com at work, which I'm sure is more in depth, but it appears he fractured a cannon bone and required two screws and surgery. They are optimistic that he'll recover and become a stallion. h...

Re: Across the pond

That's exciting! I was bummed to see his form tail off after Royal Ascot last year, but hopefully he will be competitive in some North American graded stakes. Seems kind of ambitious that their current plan is already prep race then Breeder's Cup, but if anyone knows how to do it, it's Chad Brown.

Re: 2019 Keeneland September

The vendor of the Leslie's Lady filly said that it was the nicest looking foal that she's ever produced. Quite a contrast considering her foal (a colt?) last year went for less than $500,000, no? Though that one wasn't quite as good looking, and probably had lots of vetting issues. Just looked into...

Re: Stallion News

I’ve seen the ads but didn’t realize there was a date on them... a teaser for sure. They’ve already announced they’re standing Omaha Beach and Mitole, and last year they grabbed Bolt d’Oro and Free Drop Billy. This may be a naive question, but out of curiosity, how are farms able to continually add...

Re: Favorite Photos of Race Horses

Is it actually a wall eye or is it a horse in full flight with its head turned 90 degrees to the left? Wall eyes are... bleh. I don't believe it makes a horse more violent, but the horses/ponies I've worked with that have had them were spooky and/or just a**holes to deal with. More than other horses...

Re: Matings 2019

Made me happy to see all the nice mares who visited Roaring Lion -- thanks Afrashad (and Maria's Mon, and RugbyGirl, and everyone else who posts broodmare cover lists). Sure would be chuffed if he got a good colt or two from that bunch. Hopefully he gets his Dubawi from his unfortunately Dubai Mill...

Re: Matings 2019

The old man will be 22 next year, and based on 156 mares this year, it doesn't look like he is slowing down (or that Coolmore plans on letting him slow down). But if he is still willing and able, why not I guess. I wonder what his % of mares in foal have been the last couple of years.

Re: Horrible Names For Horses

I don't find Kitten's Joy feminine at all. What's feminine about a baby cat? I know the horse is named for Ramsey's wife, but 90% of the people who have heard the horse's name don't know that. Even then, I don't really find it that feminine, since the name is possessive, not something like "Fluffy K...

Didn't Paolucci say that once all of his current horses in training are retired/sold, he is done with the game? Maybe he just isn't willing to take one more step closer to leaving.

Re: Horrible Names For Horses

Coolmore also gives some good one word names to their mares sometimes. Up, Was, Twirl, Minding, Winter, Tapestry, Soon, etc. Godolphin Australia has the best one word names. If you don't mind going down a bit of a rabbit hole, their website has all of their horses in training listed, and whoever is...

The well known jockeys publicly stating that the track and footing is perfect in every way made me lol. Because if anyone will tolerate a dissenting opinion, it's the royal family of Saudi Arabia.

Aw, frack.
IIRC, that means a lot of dead and infected tissue needed to be removed. :(
Come on, you great grey, and beat this.

Calyx , standout 2yo last season by Kingman, has been retired and has been acquired by Coolmore Bleh. Also, can we talk about how, at 48, Frankie Dettori is at the peak of his remarkable career? 11 Group 1s in eight weeks: Sussex Stakes Goodwood Cup King George Irish Oaks Prix Jean Prat Coral-Eclip...
