Re: Happiness

Congrats starry and Som! Turns out my work is in danger of getting scooped and I'm now trying to balance classes and teaching with tons and tons of labwork, but on the plus side, my lab is the best work environment anyone could ever hope for and my advisor is the greatest advisor in the long history...

Re: The movie thread

Go to your nearest IMAX theater and watch Gravity. DO IT NOW. Wow indeed, even in a plain ordinary theater! Saw it again tonight- also in IMAX, but I imagine it's pretty incredible on a normal screen as well. Just an amazing experience and I can't recommend it enough to everyone. You DEFINITELY wan...

I HAVE RETURNED (thanks Victoria!). Guess who, guess who. Whoooo! Love the new username, +1 to nerdiness   Yours should be Axolotl, if we're going with nerdiness. Then we could rule the world! Haha awwww man, you're right! Total missed opportunity. The only solution is for us to s...

Go to your nearest IMAX theater and watch Gravity. DO IT NOW. Yeah, I'll probably go see this with my Dad next week.. we usually see all the sci-fi stuff together. Been hearing really good things about this one, and I am already a fan of the director (well, all three of the "amigo" directors actual...

Had a glorious time at game 1- I know they won't all be that easy, but I just love this Sox team.

Havana is very fast and very talented, and I believe he'll go farther than people expect.

Still, it's hard to not feel a twinge of excitement when thinking about Honor Code...

I thought of The Decemberists immediately upon seeing that name (assuming that's who you're referring to).
Heck yes!

He won, btw. Now over $262k in earnings and no signs of slowing down.

Re: Horses We'd Like To Own (not the obvious ones)

Hazards of Love. Took 19 tries to break his maiden, spent a while in the Louisiana claiming ranks. Now at age 6, he's won four straight and nine of his last thirteen starts (including a last-out win in a starter allowance at Churchill), and he's hit the board in 31 of 46 starts. He's entered in a ha...

Re: Good luck Vince

Pretty painful in retrospect, but thanks for posting- love seeing these kinds of intersections between my favorite team and favorite sport, and it's a bit of free publicity for racing too. EDIT: found a little interview with him: Q: How long have you been interested in racing? A: Since the year Big ...

I offer opinion, just like you and others here do. And you may be correct. The rail may not have been dead. However, the mere fact that you say you are correct does not make it so. I contended it was dead offering the evidence that Revolutionary was unable to gain traction and advance against Golde...

Re: 2 year olds of 2013

Purple Sky (Pulpit x Tessa Blue) broke his maiden at 2nd asking at CD on Saturday. I saw him run in the slop at the Spa on the Woodward undercard and he looked pretty good running 3rd that day to Honor Code. If nothing else it validates Honor Code a bit that the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in that ...

I watched Twin Peaks and now I'm sad because nothing on TV is as good. Only thing that comes close for me is Hannibal, which isn't coming back until forever :(

Re: MLB - 2013

Just got my tickets for opening night of the ALDS at Fenway. I probably can't afford it but what the heck, I'm not passing up on this opportunity. Went to a Sox game last week (dollar beard night, it was glorious), and the contrast in atmosphere between this season and last is just indescribable. Th...

I'm not much good at street parking (never actually learned how to do it, since it wasn't on the test), but I have learned how to parallel park on the opposite side of the road... that took some getting used to and it's often pretty ugly. My advisor is presenting my work at a conference tomorrow. I'...

Re: The College & University Thread

I started about 4 weeks ago..maybe? After the first two weeks I lose track. lol But my school is pretty quite and we have no cool equine programs. My psychology stats class should be interesting though, but not in an enjoyable sense. What!!! Psych is fascinating. Started my GRE studying a week ago....
