Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?

I liked Curlin (but not as first)... and his adventures on the turf. He barely lost to a future Turf winner! It was pretty crazy. Jackson was so sporting. In retrospect I regret hating him. He put his horses in some crazy spots and they always did well. Ugh same. At least I had enough sense to enjo...

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?

Yeah, I love reliving this stuff and telling newer people about it! I'm pretty sure somebody archived that thread (come through for us pgf), but I can't find it yet. In the meantime, here's a video from the thread starter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_tX3KfdNl8 2007 had a lot of great 3yos and...

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?

It was a joke thread. Curlin might be the most hated horse ever on this forum.. this guy who now has a twitter (someone will have to help me out with the name) started this joke thread about who would win a match race - either Curlin or Jesus. People either were offended or the appropriate level of...

Re: Tragedy hits Santa Anita again

I've long thought that forums like this are a modern day Cheers neighborhood bar where folks meet after a days work or playing the ponies to solve the worlds problems as well as the more personal stuff. So, with that in mind, think about that bar just a couple of blocks from the track, every neighb...

Re: Standout Losing Efforts

Honestly, Victory Gallop was so badly interfered-with in the stretch that his winning effort was the more impressive one- and it saved us all from a lot of drama. Great topic, though! My first thought was Congaree's third in the 2001 Kentucky Derby. He ran his heart out that day as the only horse w...

Standout Losing Efforts

What are some losing races, but for whatever reason(s) those races have either always or have come over time to stand out for you personally? Stuff like Charismatic's Belmont, Carson Hollow's Test, and Zenyatta's 2010 Classic are assumed, naturally. For me, there are two that often come to mind, and...

Re: 2019 Met Mile

Looks like the Belmont might be War of Will vs. Tacitus for the most part. We haven't had a Preakness/Belmont double in a while, so I'm excited to see if we get one ( 2006 I think?). They're both bred for it, but Tacitus is rested, War of Will is on relatively short rest, and we'll get to find out ...

Re: Kentucky Derby : Do you agree with the stewards decision?

Do you happen to live in NY... specifically Long Island? Because I HATED driving out there for that reason. In the midwest, it's a bit better monitored. That's not to say that people don't speed, because they do (I mean, i go routinely 5-10 mph over the limit, but almost never more than that), but ...

Re: Kentucky Derby : Do you agree with the stewards decision?

To me, that's like saying "some people break the speed limit when they drive so we should just do away with speed limits." Hopefully this means that there will be more consistency going forward. In many areas (and esp where I live, ugh) the speed limit is routinely and informally disregarded. One c...

Anyway, I've had three non-racing friends text me asking what on earth happened yesterday when they've otherwise never brought up racing.

Just learned that Improbable actually went off favored so at least one definitive thing we can say about this Derby is the favorites streak is well and truly broken, if only by a smidge.

Re: 2019 Triple Crown

So, hypothetically what would happen if Country House somehow manages to win the Preakness in Belmont? Besides hell freezing over and pigs sprouting wings. Glorious anarchy! Now that we've had one satisfying TC winner and one controversial one, I'm all-in on Team Chaos. I want them to dead heat in ...

Re: 2019 Kentucky Derby

What I mean is, when in discussion, people will always have to go back and say, "Well, Max actually won", and then that'll start up a debate. And then, similar to how for the longest we had to mention that the Derby was sponsored by Yum! in every mention of the event's name, we'll have to say this....
