Re: Derby contender thoughts

Great job Tessa. Loved reading your thoughts! Thanks Kennedy, I've learned (and continue to learn) so much from you over the years, it means a lot to hear that! Not at all. I could read your stuff all day :) I think you do a great job not only picking out little details and observations but writing...

Feels as relevant as Rich Eisen "sending" in an Olympic 1,500 meter.

Re: GREYVITOS

It’s not that he doesn’t fit it’s the timing that’s off. The Lexington made little sense in the scheme of things. I don’t remember how many points he has but the Lexington would have given him only 20 more had he won. At best he would have been on the bubble. He ran the way one would expect, show s...

Re: GREYVITOS

I think one potential reason for running him here is that he does actually have a chance to win the race. The post won't help but it's not ridiculous to run a horse 3 weeks after they last ran. I can imagine that they see the Lexington as a race that he got something out of and they want to build on...

Re: Derby contender thoughts

Workout form numbers for this years race. Workout form is just a home grown measurement of a horses pre-Derby works (post last prep) to their works prior to their last prep. A 1.00 basically means no change and a number less than 1 means they aren't working as sharply as they did prior. Audible 0.98...

Also it would be nice to hear the end of this "curse".

It's not a curse it's something that just happens to be true right now.

Re: Justify

Magnum Moon's Arkansas Derby made me a little concerned for a moment if I should pick Justify FTW in the Kentucky Derby. But I'll stick to my prediction. I hope I can get 3-1 but I highly doubt it. More likely 2-1 or less. Justify is getting a ton of hype. The thing is say Justify does lose the Ken...

Re: Derby Point Races 2018

I think the post draw may have killed my hopes for using Combatant as a viable longshot. Or it could be a way to keep his price up and force his hand on a new tactical style which may suit him. Just a theory but as I've been watching this horse through the spring I've been seeing more and more para...

I should also mention, just in case people think I'm some kind of expert, that my personal Derby record is 21-4-3-0 and the last time I was really in top form was the turn of the century.

Re: Derby contender thoughts

Was particularly curious about Noble Indy as I am not entirely sure what to do with him. For me Noble Indy is a toss. That shouldn't necessarily mean much because I'm wrong all the time :) But Pletcher is particularly adept at building resumes for horses by getting them in spots that suit them. Nob...

Don't get this on Flameaway though...how isn't he fast enough? If they lose it'll be because.... He’s just not fast enough. Re: Derby contender thoughts

Lots of wonderful stuff, Kennedy. Your fingers must be due for a break. Enticed: Love his pedigree and his trainer, but his high knee action keeps making me think he would be better on turf. It does make me wonder. How many horses in this race are ultimately very good turf horses that we just...
