Re: Hard Spun Foals

Out for a Spin won G1 Ashland Stakes today in her stakes debut. She earned 100 points toward the Kentucky Oaks. She ran early with 2yo champion Jaywalk. Put her away on the far turn and then turned back second choice Restless Rider before the finish. Good girl! I think she is Hard Spun's 10th G1 wi...

Re: The Florida Derby

His distance limitation is mental. Can he learn to rate behind horses or just sit there and pout, which is what he did Saturday. I like the way you characterized that. He certainly is better than what he showed. Maybe it was part bounce and part mental. I do hope they let him get some experience in...

Re: The Florida Derby

Or, you could be the one that purchased his unproven momma for $11,000 recently. I think you guys are talking about 2 different horses. ??? Nope! Maximum Security debuted in a $16k Maiden Claimer on 12/20 at Gulfstream and Lil Indy, his dam, sold for $11k in foal to New Year's Day at the 2018 Keene...

Re: The Florida Derby

I'm not sure about the plans for Hidden Scroll but seemingly he could be one of the most well known and dangerous so-called new shooters that the Preakness has seen in years. Stylistic fit David Grening ‏@DRFGrening Bill Mott said Hidden Scroll came out of Florida Derby in good shape. He will likel...

Re: The Florida Derby

Regarding the comments on Maximum Security's name. I didn't interpret it as a reference to the current political climate at all. I read it more like "maximum security prison".

Re: Hard Spun Foals

Hidden Scroll finished 6th in the Florida Derby, ending that Derby dream. I imagine they will back off and perhaps plan a summer campaign. Maybe the Woody Stephens in June? He does have talent and he is fast. Maybe shorter distances will suit him better. I will say, they should never have let Maxim...

Re: 2019 Three-Year-Olds

I was a teenager in Miami during Affirmed and Alydar. An old time sportswriter named Luther Evans was covering horse racing for the Miami Herald and hosting a weekly 90 minute sports talk show on WKAT. Alydar was thriving in Florida that winter. Evans thought he would win the Derby. The consensus l...

Re: Million Dollar Louisiana Derby

I cannot believe that the jock persevered with that horse rather than just pulling him up. One of his comments after the race was "he was fighting me all the way around there" Well...... In hindsight, I would have to agree. Yet, I have to admit that is not entirely fair. While it was unfolding, it ...

Re: Million Dollar Louisiana Derby

Looked bad to me and even more so in the video. I sure wouldn't want to take a step like that. It would probably throw my back out among other things. Painful to look at. I don't see how he could be a whole lot better in one day. That was pretty extreme. I twisted my ankle a few years ago and it was...
