Rachel's Valentina

http://www.timesunion.com/news/article/Photos-In-meet-preview-horses-stretch-their-6399101.php She is a beauty! Though a year younger than Jess's Dream, it appears Rachel's Valentina is closer to becoming the first to race. She has had a steady work tab at Saratoga. Pletcher said she is "a couple" ...

Did they ever figure out why he preferred some mares and not others? http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/45615/war-emblem-now-breeding-to-mares-daily He looks like a gelding in the pictures. He was a flashy boy in his day. Maybe his fan club will work now to help pay his transport costs?...

Re: American Pharoah

Already customized versions are appearing in the secondary market. With tack:) This one on the Smarty Jones model--also has the ears pinned. I think Cigar is the only one running that has his ears forward. And Lonesome Glory standing. The new model will be on the Ruffian mold. http://www.modelhorses...

Re: The Chrome Crazies

The crazies are everywhere. A thoughtful essay by Jon Katz written after his most recent book, Going Home: Finding Peace When Animals Die triggered a fresh flood of comments. http://www.bedlamfarm.com/2015/07/12/onions-hot-cars-ponies-panic-and-greed-fear-and-loathing-in-the-animal-world/ "...The mi...

Re: Cozmic One

What I meant was that whatever Zenyatta ran on--or didn't, they know. That information you have in your pocket as trustworthy. What other horses you don't own ran on or didn't, you don't know. And the waffling about what is or isn't "legal" makes it difficult to determine genuine talent. As to dopin...

Re: Cozmic One

The loss of the filly meant a loss of the next generation. Even if she didn't run, she could have been a link to the future. The boys need to run to carry Zenyatta forward into the future. Because she became so gentle, it is easy to forget the stories of how difficult she was when she was young. She...

Re: Grant and financial resources

This grant is for anti-doping research and development in human sports, but I think with some talking to the program people, especially with the people involved in racing, a case could be made for animal research. Many of these drugs cross back and forth between human and animal athletes and it coul...

I am so disappointed. I loved seeing the stories and pictures of him training in England. Well, not to be. No International Star status for him after all. Good luck to Ward's Team!

Re: Haskin Resigns as Senior Correspondent of The BloodHorse

He's a gifted storyteller and would be an asset to a public relations or marketing team--even philanthropy. Telling the good stories to promote the sport and breed--that is what he has done. His column was one of the few I read consistently in Bloodhorse. He appeals to a wider base than players alone.

Coz looks like a racing TB now, but he's been in training for longer than Ziconic. Ziconic looks like the baby he is yet. :) I hope John can wrangle that attitude of Coz's to be competitive on the track. I remember reading a comment from Mike Smith that when Zenyatta split horses in a race, she beca...

Re: California Chrome

From the sidelines, I think California Chrome being at Ascot is exciting. Black Cavier ran there and perhaps Aussie racing is closer in style to Euro racing than US racing, but that big trip to get there had to have put her at a bit of a disadvantage. Yet she won. From the US and for all those who h...

Re: Drawing new fans key to future...

New fans... people love the glamor of beautiful animals. And there is an excitement in a watching any race or competition. Look how people will spend hours watching programs like game shows (competitions) or yawn...golf. Golf! To capture public imagination, especially for sports involving animals--a...

The Memorial is lovely and yet evokes such a sense of loss. To watch something beautiful fade and wither even as it just began to bloom... The video of the naughty First Son kind of takes on new meaning given what we've heard John S. say about Coz being hard to handle. Now if John can harness that t...

Is Chrome in England now? Is that where the last photo was taken? I hope the US racing press follows him as he preps for Ascot. It is interesting to watch an American US elite racehorse transition to international racing. Not just plopped down in a faraway place, but developed and trained on site. E...

According to the story, she was bred to Big Brown--a fine sire. I hope she settled. :)

Hope the mare and her foal(s) are safe and cared for, I hope someone responsible steps up to assure they are now and in...
