Re: RunHappy

The trainer is probably just too New York for them. Too direct. I hope they pay her what they owe her. What did the horse win again? And 10 percent of that is? Does she pay the grooms and exercise riders or was she hired as "staff"? It kind of sounded like she was staff and didn't bill the owner but...

Re: First female jockey wins Melbourne cup

It is good to see doors open for people to participate. And I liked her comment about competitive riding being less about brute strength (though I imagine she's very strong!) and more about tactical riding. And that her brother, Stevie, works with her even though he has Down's Syndrome. Very good st...

Re: RunHappy

Likely isn't a shot out of the blue for her since she mentioned she thought she was going to be "dumped" after the King's Bishop in her interview with Steve Haskins. And she sure isn't the first trainer to have a winning horse taken from them though usually the horse is sold. http://cs.bloodhorse.co...

Re: Floral blankets-Kroger

I saw that Kroger also made the KD blankets. Here is a story from last year about the Preakness blankets made by Giant Foods. Guess the process is the same regardless of the race. You see Susan G. Komen was named as a sponsor for one race, so they must solicit sponsors for the drapes. Interesting. P...

Floral blankets-Kroger

I see on the BC site that Kroger floral creates the winner blankets. It would be interesting to see how those are made, where they are made and if they are sponsored. What is the story behind the floral blankets for the BC races? I found a link to an old story on Examiner, but is there anything more...

Re: Beholder

Disappointing for everyone, but safest for her. She brought a bit of magic to the event that is lost. Better safe. Much better safe and when you run against the TC winner, you want everything you have to work for you. Beautiful mare.

Re: Beholder

I just watched her last work video and thought I saw her slip or something around the 23-25 second frame. She is coming around the last corner and something goes off a bit. She notes it but keeps running. What could that be? Or not? Which video? The one posted above:) Greymare I'm glad you saw it t...

Re: Unlikely Ohio Standardbred winner, MJB Got Faith

To be so confident while still so young...it doesn't sound like bluster either. Her parents supporting her helps a lot. Then without prompting, she is sharing the winnings with people in need...more than the horse, her parents have to be thrilled to have such a thoughtful, resourceful child. Shows i...

As to his condition, I can't comment on that. I'm of the belief that if Baffert and Shah are putting him on the track, he's fine to race.
Like Take Control (Vallenzeri) was race fit?

Re: Closing of Illinois' Maywood Park and Kathy Byrne

What if someone worked with regional rescues and the Illinois State Racing Board to coordinate a Safety Net for this group of horses? Perhaps they could also help fundraise for this emergency? It might mean temporary shelter until the horses can be moved to foster or permanent homes, again working w...

Re: Closing of Illinois' Maywood Park and Kathy Byrne

I am surprised there isn't at least an idea of what happens to the animals --150 athletes--when everyone else goes home. Beside the Amish auction. What do you do with 150 unwanted horses? Everyday workhorses, who as Ms. Byrne said, won't survive. I hope Ms. Byrne is able to muster an after-shutdown-...

Closing of Illinois' Maywood Park and Kathy Byrne

Excellent Letter to the Editor in the TB Daily News from Kathy Byrne, Owner/Lawyer, Member, Illinois Racing Board, Supporting Member, WHOA http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/letter-to-the-editor-kathy-byrne/#.VfQcDagjB3Q.twitter I’m tired of hearing the excuse that we’ll lose horses to other state...

Re: In retrospect - The 2008 BCC

Perhaps Curlin's drop in form was in part the result of a drop in steroids and other medications he was receiving though he was sure hot for a while after he was reported off of them including his big win in Dubai. Remember it was the year the Winstrol was stopped in some horses including Curlin aft...

Re: ZENYATTA LOVERS => MUST SEE THIS

Oh there is nothing-- nothing --as exciting and lovely to watch as Zenyatta. Just watching her in this video (thank you for sharing!) so quickly brings it back and by contrast shows we haven't anything to compare since she retired. That big closing speed with ears up and charging. Aggressive, she wa...

Re: Rachel's Valentina

Looks like she wants even more ground. Wouldn't it be ironic if Rachel threw a dead closer like Zenyatta?.............. I thought she showed more flexibility than her dam. A slow start, move from near the back, the kick--move to the outside and the drive. Good baby! She didn't quit. She can carry h...

Re: Storm Catlets

That is remarkable. The owner will have to see if they have any racing ability. Clones are not exact copies, but close. [/i]Meeker’s eyes light up when he talks about the potential of two three-month-old clones that were born in April at his farm in Aiken. The foals, which are dark bay with chestnut...
