Not sure this clarifies anything for the BCC.

Where are the Volponis of yesteryear?
Still racing.. I know that the older male division has fallen victim to early retirements many times but this year feels particularly blah.

Re: Jockey Club Gold Cup

It was the right call if for no other reason than Vino Rosso should never be in the position to win a G1. CoH also had his head in front a few times. I think when it's that neck and neck any bump can result in lost momentum. That said, I feel like I've seen that exact same stretch run in the past wi...

Re: Santa Anita Autumn Meet

Emtech went down in a heap in the stretch of the 8th race...right in the middle of NBCSN's nationwide coverage. The screens are out on the track, and I fear we've lost Emtech, along with Santa Anita's decent safety record since early June. :( ETA: After breaking both front fetlocks, Emtech was euth...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

There is wayyy too much money tied up in racing and there are a lot of wealthy and powerful people in it. There is no way it stops completely and phasing out would be more likely.

I was just going to post that. These things are not mutually exclusive.

It is strange to think all of us are miserable just because we find the debacle strange. The internet is strange though.

Re: Stallion News

I know all these farms are businesses, some (Spendthrift, WinStar, Coolmore) more commercially driven than others (Darley, Adena Springs, Claiborne), but I had a (maybe obvious to some) realization : are any of these farms actually interested in creating stallions? Like, yes, they have a bottom lin...

Is this all morning or afternoon stuff? Not that it matters. Life is choatic these days and I haven't been paying attention too much. Still no local media reporting on any of it as far as I know. But I might be wrong. A lot of the local papers I can think of are linked to cable networks and +1 stre...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

Racing's problems really haven't changed a whole heckofalot in the past 60 years, the one big change is the WWW Internet and the increasing number of experts doing the analyses. This is a terrible stance. The game needs fixing and in a bad way. What good is it to be against bettering it? Even if so...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

Your mind is just as made up as you're claiming everyone else's to be. There is no answer as to why the horse had any level in his system. I thought the jimson weed as offered as a possible. There are some facts about a seemingly arcane issue that no one knows much about. I am truly baffled by a num...

Will he race again...? Odds?
3 - 5 against that he'll ever race again.
A total shame, I was a believer. Also it's slightly atypical of a FHF horse to retire prematurely.

Who would even want to breed to him at this point? Recency bias is real. Unsound, really didn't do anything special..

Re: Stallion News

Politics determines how we live life and more or less have access to anything. It's not seprate from racing, especially when you consider the industry relies on immigrant labor and the current administration wants to make sure they all go back to where they came from. Didn't Coolmore share a photo o...

I've adamantley railed against that ownership group and Al Shaqab for years. Publicslly.

I find it impossible to overlook it. It's a good old white boys club.

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

The idea that we should look the other way is a lot of desensitization. The CHRB has really offered no facts to combat anything.

I hope all the board members have D&O!

26 is way more than 4, and 4 is still more than it should be. How do we have no interest? Not all of us have the luxury of the extreme amount of free time that you have. There's also no local media reporting on it. If it continues into next week I'm sure that will change. I'm glad that 26 deaths don...

Re: Belmont

Why does the west coast have such a chip on it's shoulder? Do you want more horses to break down at Belmont so racing has more bad publicity? NY media is heavily focused on baseball and the sad state of our football teams right now. I'm sure some local media has this but in the tri state area there ...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

While I doubt it was intentional, the question is not whether it was intentionally given as a PED, but whether at that dose it had PED effects. Also, for disreputable vets and trainers, side effects that can be disastrous for the horse do not always enter into the equation. Giving a potential PED s...

I wouldn't take a Percocet prior to heading to the gym either but that shit sure does work great on a Sunday afternoon when my back locks up and I can't move. I don't know enough about this drug or it's half-life or possible cross contamination to have a real opinion, but I'm sick of racing being sh...

I imagine ear length is an important angle when it comes to handicapping the hounds.

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

Stupid question. Have any of the other trainers and/ or horses with scopolamine positives at the same time as Justify been identified? It may have been obvious in the articles but I can't recall seeing it. Especially if the levels were comparable, how were these cases handled? Thanks so much. And, ...
