Re: What you would like to see happen in racing before you d

While I don't disagree that there is too much product, I don't think that dumping the 'lesser' tracks is necessarily the solution. The comparison to the D League is a poor one. People are already proving they are willing to bet on tracks like Charles Town, Mountaineer, Penn National, Philly Park, e...

Re: What you would like to see happen in racing before you d

I really don't like the idea of TVG/HRTV being part of the solution as I think they're part of the problem, do we really need another middle man skimming a few percentage points off of every dollar handled? I'd much prefer to see each track that wants to do their own TV distribution with the monies ...

Re: Why has horse racing become a 2nd tier sport?

Somehat related question.......Who Is The Heavyweight Champion Of The World? Joe Louis? Rocky? Tyson? Evander? MuhammedAli? Once upon a time everybody knew the answer to that question, didn't matter if you were a boxing fan or not. Somewhere along the way we all lost sight of the sport that once was...

Re: What you would like to see happen in racing before you d

Your post in general is a good one. Where I depart is the notion that the BIGGEST problem is the difficulty of understanding the game. No, the BIGGEST problem is the size of the take nowadays. Logical post with one major exception........how do you explain State Lottery pools up over $400milliondol...

Re: What you would like to see happen in racing before you d

The bit about the withholding laws, I agree with. The rest of it is turn-back-the-clock stuff that would just kill interest in the game even further if instituted today. Back during the Great Depression, John Q. Bettor could wager $2 on a winning 4-1 shot, get $8 handed back to him and be able to t...

Re: What you would like to see happen in racing before you d

Rather than the boring black and white thermal paper tickets tossed on the ground, I'd like to see multi-colored tickets that when torn up after a race expose 5 or 6 different layers of bright colors inside!

Re: Del Mar plans to install dirt track for 2015

The really BIG question is who will be the track superintendent? Will it be a dirt expert? Will it be the current poly team? Will it be a guy who likes to steamroll the track to superfast hardness? This to me is the big question......when the CHRB originally said there needed to be a change away fro...

Re: What you would like to see happen in racing before you d

I would like to see the pari-mutual game reinstated, let the fans pick winners and wager accordingly, there really is no need to make a tencent wager trying to figure out who is going to run in 4th place. The one and only good reason for reducing the wagering amount is to skirt the archaic IRS witho...

Re: What you would like to see happen in racing before you d

I would like to see all of the class "B" and "C" tracks across the country close. Well, maybe not close, but limit their exposure to their regional area, ie Evangeline or Beulah Park, there's absolutely no reason for DRF, TVG, HRTV to give them nationwide exposure like they do for the class "A" trac...

Re: Larry Collmus CD Announcer

As announcers play musical chairs I hope that Vic Stauffer doesn't get left standing. He's worthy of a job at major racetrack of his choice. Curious how something like this happens.....do they have casting calls and tryouts or is it all done behind closed doors? Do the top announcers have agents tha...

Re: It Is a Different Game....

Admittedly didn't read every post in this thread but as a west coast guy learning the game back in the 60's you need look no further than the Hall of Fame to find Charlie Whittingham and I was taught the quickest way for a gambler to head to the poor house was to bet on Charlie's first timers, they ...

Re: Larrys Derby Top 25 + Derby Stats, Historical Trends

Thank you for the lecture. My opinion hasn't changed, though, so evidently you didn't do a good enough job. Speaking of your opinion, here's a thought......how about YOU telling us a 250/1 shot that seems logical to you, enough so that you'll back it up at the windows? There might be some value in ...

Re: Larrys Derby Top 25 + Derby Stats, Historical Trends

It's your money, but I still think it's baffling. I can't think of ANYthing where the odds exceed 100-1 that wouldn't be considered baffling ahead of time! Tell me Best Supporting Actor for the 2015 Academy Awards, might it be James Woods, current odds 125-1? Tell me best new artist at the Grammys ...

Re: Just how good is Russell Baze?.....

The money earned and all the records speak for themselves, he's a top-notch guy on and off the field of play. BUT.....the big fish theory isn't so much about him as it is he can ride ANY horse in ANY race that he wants to. Not many jocks across the country can say that agents/trainers are on the pho...
