Re: Greatest Jockeys of All-Time

What about Hong Kong, Australia etc. anybody from there worthy of being on the list? And if they make the list, why? What was it about them other than they just won a lot of races? I have hunch that some countries the formula is something like 5% trainer 5% jockey and 90% horse to be successful, so ...

Re: Greatest Jockeys of All-Time

The only time I saw Longden ride was in one of those Rocking Chair Derbies at Del Mar. I remember watching Bill Hartack ride, he was pretty special. Another is Sandy Hawley. He took everything wide and because of that sometimes got schooled in turf races but horses ran out of their skin for him. Ha...

Re: Flores seeks reinstatement

Santa Anita: Stewards rule jockey David Flores can resume riding Jockey David Flores has been granted the right to resume riding by Santa Anita stewards, who issued a one-page ruling on Thursday essentially reversing a decision by stewards in Singapore that banned Flores for a year. Flores was sanct...

Re: Greatest Jockeys of All-Time

Going to try and avoid the obvious and think more about handicapping races and when I needed to include the jock as part of the race shape scenario and what he might be able to do. Also, actually observed fans in the stands who would just bet on Shoemaker every race, not sure I've ever seen anything...

Re: The VENT Thread

Why in the heck do people insist on discussing the raw times of races, this was 2:02 and that was 2:03, as if it meant something? You've simply got to attach some sort of track variant as a first step to analysis, simply saying the track was slowing down that day ain't enough to keep the conversatio...

Re: Will American Pharoah win the Triple Crown?

I think it would be one of the all-time, all-time great horse racing stories that would stand the test of time for years to come, might even overload the internet if the "Other Baffert" were to win the Belmont with the triple crown on the line, and for that reason I'll vote no. ;)

Randy Moss and Beyer Figs

At some point in time years ago I thought Randy Moss was on one of the regional teams that make up the Beyer numbers. Just took a look at his twitter account and there doesn't seem to be any mention of it. https://twitter.com/randy_moss_TV Is it a secret? Are there regional teams of folks? Is Randy ...

Re: 2015 KENTUCKY DERBY Gr1 $2 Million 1 1/4 Miles

The continued prevalence of this thought process is the reason why dropping $40 per card for Sheets makes sense. You wouldn't happen to be a fan of Mike Smith, would you? ;) Riddle me this.....how do you measure/quantify the effects of a jock checking, stop riding, putting the brakes on, breaking s...

Re: 2015 KENTUCKY DERBY Gr1 $2 Million 1 1/4 Miles

oh yeah AP was really really wide in that final turn - he traveled the farthest for sure - makes his win even more impressive actually Not sure I follow along with that. I know that Trackus, Ragozin et al make a big deal out of who travels the farthest, lost ground on the turns etc. and that's all ...

I've managed to be loyal and pick only one horse since December and that was #8 on Matt's original list, today he's post #10 FIRING LINE If I win it'll be the first time since 1989 when I was lucky enough to have a very nice 50-1 future wager on the Derby winner Sunday Silence, it's really tough whe...

He'll probably be able to afford a lawyer anyway. A former Buc QB lives right around the corner from me, Josh Freeman. I think he's trying to peddle himself to Miami this time. Nice house, not ridiculous. Tropic colonial with balconies. I believe it's on the market. Creamy peach flavor. Has a built...
