Re: The Saudi cup

Phelps Media Group and its founder are an absolute joke. Anything highlighted on that site or using that site to promote its services is very suspect at best. I hadn't heard of them and just took their site at face value, sounds like that may have been a mistake. Would love to hear more if you are ...

Re: Jason Servos, Navarro, 27 others investigated

Aww Final Turn. What a beautiful mess that place was. Post count means nothing and it's nice to see people coming out of the woodwork to discuss this important moment in our sport. It seems like the vast majority- with one or two exceptions- is solidly in agreement that exposing these outrages was a...

Re: FBI raid at Calder

Well that's completely absurd and unbelievable. Maybe it wasn't used on sprinters? What do Shancelot, XY Jet, Sharp Azteca, Private Zone, World of Trouble, Shekky Shebaz, and Firenze Fire all have in common? Maximum Security stands out as the exception here in more than one way. Mylute, it's hard to...

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

I think CDI would watch the world burn before it does anything to reduce its bottom line, but the choice likely won't be theirs to make by that point. Hopefully they are at least starting to think about contingencies. Churchill getes very tight in a big crowd, and I see nothing wrong with a spectato...

I forgot that happened. Remembering it feels like a fever dream.

A Gill vet was one of the people indicted yesterday, btw.

Re: FBI raid at Calder

Omaha Beach was second, but the margin was so enormous (217 votes for Max vs 16 for OB and 8 for CoH) that I think it would be fair to either hold a revote or just split it. We don't know who those Max voters would have gone for instead of him. People will complain that "he's not the only one who wa...

Re: FBI raid at Calder

Fascinating stuff, SC. Thank you so much for sharing it. Given this tweet, it seems like there may have been no hard feelings: https://twitter.com/realBrianTrump/status/1063548173392654336 @realBrianTrump Couldn’t be at @DelMarRacing today for the race, but you know I wouldn’t miss it. 77 pages for those who like delving into the deep end.... https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sjGdkmPtLOQljqvIbqpCIYJKntNZ27X0/view from DRF..... No illegal medications were found in any of the 23 horses who died at Santa Anita between Dec. 30, 2018, and March 31, 2019, but 21 had “pre-existing pathol...

Re: The Saudi cup

That doesn't necessarily make it an official U of Sydney research project. It may just mean that the basic concept was cooked up by some U of Sydney's staff or students in their spare time. It'll be interesting to hear the U of Sydney's response. Absolutely, and I don't want to cast aspersions on a...

Re: The Saudi cup

If there were Olympic athletes involved, then that may be why the FBI started looking in to the compounding pharmacy to begin with. An excellent point. MediVet appears to have been quite integrated across a number of high-level disciplines. Phelps Media Group, which labels itself as an "internation...

Re: The Saudi cup

This was my first thought when Boyd Martin was mentioned in the other thread. It just happens that horse racing has a lot more money involved since it goes beyond a sports regulating issue, animal welfare issue and business issue, it also is a gambling issue that equestrian sports aren't. (And the ...

Re: The Saudi cup

I am probably speaking way out of turn here as I really am not particularly knowledgeable about drug testing, but it was once explained to me that certain drugs were good masking agents because of their "peak"profile being very similar to illicit drugs, which is why I believe Gastroguard was banned...

Re: FBI raid at Calder

With the caveat, I know you can't necessarily correlate human medicine to horses. I read the indictment, and one drug specifically mentioned that I recognized is epogen (brand names in people are Aransep and Procrit). I was treated for a blood cancer 13 years ago and received that drug because my r...

Re: The Saudi cup

I would encourage re-testing the samples, but after thinking on it more I'm quite skeptical of Racing Victoria's claim. Chiefly, I'm not certain anyone knows what SGF-1000 actually is . An RV official called it "a peptide," but the sgf1000.com website description (which is basically nonsense) lists ...

Re: FBI raid at Calder

Max to Baffert... you can't make this stuff up. I'm a little surprised he didn't refuse; he's not stupid. There's probably only a 50/50 chance the poor horse makes it back to the track though.

Found a story of a trainer in Australia whose horse tested positive for cobalt. After a lengthy investigation, SGF-5000 was found in the trainer's barn. Looks like it resulted in a six-month ban: https://www.thoroughbrednews.com.au/news/story/victorian-trainer-disqualified-for-six-months-105710?sect...

Re: FBI raid at Calder

I've actually been looking up Aus/Int rulings about SGF-1000 and apparently at one point the racing authorities themselves notified the company that a fake, SGF-5000, was being manufactured by someone else. WTH? Ooh do you have a link to that ruling? I saw that notice on the Vecta website, but I ha...

Re: FBI raid at Calder

Rhein is almost definitely involved in the company ( https://twitter.com/selplus/status/1008835860622606342 ) but you would never know it from the websites (websites, actually, there are two). It's incredibly bizarre and I'll go more in depth tomorrow, but try clicking on "shop" to buy something... ...
