Re: The Florida Derby

Thank you very much for sharing that link. I don't think I can begin to understand the process that goes into making these decisions, and I think all choices will be hard choices moving forward. I just hope all decisions are made with health and safety first in mind. The card is fantastic; can't wai...

Re: $1,000,000 Louisiana Derby Today

Waht the heck did Rosario do? He had the rail........ugh, I've neve rliked him Not sure what happened there, but Major Fed ran insanely well to get fourth. Wells Bayou is good, I like him a lot. But that was clearly a race that nobody was going to close into. Lots of credit to Major Fed and Enforce...

Re: 2020 Older Horses

I honestly don't think he's a Fair Grounds specialist. His only starts away from it were his debut, which was a decent effort, and the Derby, in which he was basically eliminated at the start. Both over very sloppy CD racetracks. He had an absolutely perfect trip today, but I think he's very good. N...

Re: $1,000,000 Louisiana Derby Today

Major Fed with Wells Bayou, Shake Some Action, and I suppose Enforceable can't ever be counted out.

It's so wonderful to hear about the things you're doing to help, lurkey. You sound like an absolutely wonderful teacher. What grade do you teach, and which subject? Wishing you the best with your shelter in place- the feeling is that it's inevitable here as well. MSD, I second the recommendation for...

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

I'm so sorry to hear that you're going through that, Treve. Please know that everything you are doing is worth it and will help keep them safe. We'd all be in a better situation if people treated each other with as much love and care as you have. I've also read that the latest literature gives a hou...

Re: Day 2

Had my first Blackboard Collaborate Ultra session and it went a lot better than anticipated. I told the students it was optional, and 15 of them showed up... out of 16. Got a bunch of thanks afterwards too. I'm... honestly pretty emotional right now.

Re: Day 2

Ooh what book series? I woke up to snow on the ground and a text from my mother saying Brady was leaving, so I... went back to sleep for a while. Unfortunately, 2020 turned out not to be a prolonged nightmare, and almost everything was the same when I woke up. The snow had melted. Checked up on the ...

Re: What Race Got You Into This?

It sounds like the 1998 Belmont was a watershed moment for many of us younger fans! Nice to see others having similar experiences. How about the first time you guys went to a track, or the friends you've made along the way? I met one of my very best friends because of horse racing- we were in sevent...

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

From DRF: The rescheduling will also impact other stakes traditionally held in the fall. To take just one example, the Travers Stakes, billed as the Mid-Summer Derby, is scheduled for Aug. 29 at Saratoga Race Course, one week prior to the new Derby date, and it will now almost certainly be reschedul...

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

I don't think we can possibly rely on or even hope for a vaccine right now. From what I've read, coronaviruses are notoriously difficult to vaccinate against, and even the quickest process is going to take over a year to ensure safety and efficacy. Our better bet would be the discovery and confirmat...

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

Thanks, Tessa! I'm mostly drive by posting these days, and often dangerously late at night, LOL. (An indirect apology for not following up on other threads  ) There are posters on this board that will be affected one way or another by this, just want to help in any small way possible. Gone hi...

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

Thank you for looking out for people, katmandu. I made some bootleg hand sanitizer the other day so I could give it to friends and family who still have to go to work, but it was following a WHO protocol and using laboratory reagents (glycerol, 98% ethanol, and sterile water). I also modified the pr...

Love the Black Stallion books! Who else was completely traumatized by the Everglades one?

The Thoroughbred books were legendary too.

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

Why do people seem to think the enigma "Quiet Chris" is here? Like a seasonal flu, Chris blows into this forum about once a year, causing a lot of havoc and then inevitably getting banned once he's exposed and/or starts to broach what I'll refer to as non-racing topics. He's been doing it since at ...

Re: What Race Got You Into This?

My introduction goes all the way back to mid-century past. As a young boy, visiting with my maternal grandmother in Houston on a sultry afternoon in 1965, she asked if I might like to bet on who would win the Kentucky Derby on that day in May. Dug into my pocket and pulled out the only 5 cents I ha...

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

See, here's the problem with Quiet Chris: you can't engage with him, but then he says things so far outside the realm of reality that you worry other people might listen to him, so it feels irreponsible to not respond. Can we skip ahead to the part where he goes completely off the rails instead of ...
