Re: 2019 Pegasus World Cup

Agree but I would say HRN's comment section is arguably worse and less civilized. It's the same handful of people arguing about how Justify is the GOAT, or about how X horse is a fluke, how X blogger is an idiot, etc. I'm not familiar with HRN... and it sounds like I may want to keep it that way. 8-)

Re: 2019 Pegasus World Cup

There are a whole bunch of names (same person as well as rhetoric) who lie in the weeds over at the Blood Horse that would take issue with that. Using Baffert as a piñata is a sport over there. Of course there is also someone else over there using multiple names who staunchly defends his every move...

Could he be black or is that just hyperpigmentation?
Not sure if I remember correctly but I think hyperpigmentation only happens in foals that will turn gray. Since neither of this foal's parents are gray, there's a decent chance it stays that color.

Re: Research: Shetland pony behind thoroughbred speed

If the article is correct, it's a good thing Thoroughbreds inherited speed instead of intelligence and wiliness from the Shetland. Humans would be doomed otherwise.

Hat Trick certainly has the same sort of intimidating stare as his sire and grandsire.

Re: Great read - food for thought: Blame the Breeder

however, without claiming races, the stories of "we claimed the horse to save it" might go away, and more horses may be at risk - what horse was it that was recently claimed and retired, but the owner refused to sell and wanted to keep racing? now give them the option to keep running in low tier ra...

Re: Great read - food for thought: Blame the Breeder

I've read and enjoyed Carleigh's blogs before. As usual, things are more complicated at the middle/low ends of the sport. The thing about holding owners accountable is being at the mercy of the claiming game with most of these horses. We would happily keep our horses for years, until they are ready...

It's actually spelled "privileges". :-)

I wonder how long this woman actually got away with doing AI and ET.
