Re: New Conformation Photos

Agreed. Not just because he has (IMHO) a more balanced conformation, but having the great producer, Leslie's Lady, as a dam makes his pedigree superior to Justify's.

Re: 2019 Breeders Cup

Churchill's injury record (IIRC) has been worse than Santa Anita's in recent years ( except for this winter's breakdown spike ). Moving it there not only doesn't reduce the possibility of an injury during a BC race, it might increase it. If a breakdown occurs at Kentucky's premier track in the middl...

Re: Santa Anita 2019

I don't have time to read the whole article, but does he ever point out that almost ALL racing in Europe and Asia is done on grass? Which is safer for horses?
Comparing the injury records of American vs. international racing is sort of apples to oranges. :?

Re: Royal Ascot 2019

He was born July 15, 1949, so he's about to turn 70.
That doesn't seem that old to me, but maybe being HRH, vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, and ruler of Dubai, is a lot of stress?

Re: Royal Ascot 2019

When Sheikh Mo was interviewed after Blue Point's win on Saturday, he said something about the horse having established his credentials as a stallion. I think he was already considering retiring him then. It does seem too early in the year for a horse who appears to be dominant in the turf sprint di...

Re: New Conformation Photos

Hit It a Bomb's new photo is not an improvement over his first one.
Heart's Cry (2001) looks really good in that 2017 photo.

Re: Jockey/Trainer News - 2019

...did I read that he is also not welcome at Del Mar? Yes. He has a stable in NY, I believe. I wonder if he'll pull up stakes and move back east with all his west coast horses? How many of his owners will stay with him, and how many will move their horses to other California trainers? He talked in ...

Re: Santa Anita 2019

Does Hollendorfer have a reputation for being too hard on his horses or for racing unsound horses? Or is he being made an example of by Santa Anita Powers-That-Be in order to deflect negative media/PETA attention? Is he being used as a scapegoat? If California racing already has a hard time filling ...

Re: 2019 Belmont Stakes

The Derby has often taken a toll on the colts who run in it, but this year's seems to have been especially punishing on the participants. I wouldn't be surprised to read that Maximum Security is going to also be given time off. Of all the horses in the Derby, he may have paid the heaviest price; I b...

Re: Royal Ascot 2019

Japan was impressive, and I could tell that the handsome colt was a Galileo without even looking up his pedigree.
Frankie got his 7th win in the Commonwealth Cup. :D

Re: New Conformation Photos

Both City of Light and West Coast are handsome horses, although WC already looks like he's filled out to that 'mature stallion' build. I suspect that he may have the Indy-line tendency toward Extra-Chunky Style. Gonna have to watch his calories. :P ;) CoL appears so fit that he looks like he could s...

Re: Gus Schickedanz passes away at age 90

Here's the Paulick article: Gustav Schickedanz Dies; Bred And Owned Canadian Triple Crown Winner Wando The horse racing community mourns the loss of Canadian Hall of Fame builder Gustav Schickedanz, who passed away on June 17. A very successful construction and development entrepreneur, Mr. Schicked...

Re: Royal Ascot 2019

For Stradivarius' Gold Cup win, his groom received a gift from the Queen on the trophy stand. That's has to be even better than getting your name in print. I think Her Majesty was the first person that didn't get one of Frankie's exuberant cheek kisses. Too bad he didn't get that fifth win in ...

Re: Royal Ascot 2019

Frankie also won on Sangarius in the Hampton Court. It's Frankie's world and we're just livin' in it.
Although his ouchy knees may be getting a bit tested by all his flying dismounts.

Re: Royal Ascot 2019

It sometimes drives me crazy that neither the European nor the Japanese courses have outriders. Show Me Show Me didn't just canter around the grass; when that bunch of people near the start tried to catch the colt by waving their arms at him, he shied away and ran into the fence. He was slipping whi...

Re: Royal Ascot 2019

Yeah, those conditions were so testing that I don't think some trainers want to put their best horses into such a hard race so early in their season.
Nice win by the Gleneagle colt Southern Hills in the Windsor Castle. Coolmore must be happy to see their young sire have success at the Royal Meet.

Re: Royal Ascot 2019

Rain has softened the course...and probably ruined a few fine frocks.
Can you imagine spending a bunch of money for a fancy suit or dress, and then having to either get soaked or cover up with a homely plastic poncho?
Does anyone know what the weather forecast is for the next couple of days?

Re: Royal Ascot 2019

The Coventry goes to Arizona, a big, handsome son of No Nay Never. I think I heard this was Aiden O'Brien's 9th victory in this race. The dark brown colt seemed a little lazy in the first half of the race, but came with a strong charge in the last furlong. Love the fact that he runs in what looks li...
