Re: Suburban at Belmont

I appreciate being turned on to the Dubai site, so that I can watch the race live. However, I have not missed having to listen to the grating voice of Toad Schtupp on TVG.

Re: The Belmont Derby

Yay, Henley's Joy finally got that clean trip he's been needing.
Kitten's Joy has another good colt, beating all the Euros (and one from Japan ;) ) at their own game.

Re: Suburban at Belmont

I'm disappointed that NBC couldn't find a way to include the Suburban in their telecast; it could be the best race on the card today.

Concrete Rose is a BEAST!
Twirling Candy is doing so well as a sire, although it probably doesn't hurt CR's ability on turf to have Powerscourt/Sadler's Wells on her dam side. ;)

Oeufs a la Neige , or Floating Island: A floating island is a dessert of French origin, consisting of meringue floating on crème anglaise. The meringues are prepared from whipped egg whites, sugar, and vanilla extract then quickly poached. The crème anglaise is prepared with the egg yolks, vanilla,...

Oh yeah. It had the house rolling for about ten seconds...which feels a lot longer when you waiting for it to stop...or start breaking stuff.
7.1, downgraded to a 6.9. Pretty big one, and a good thing not centered inside a city.

I think she knew that trying to find sanctuary in Jordan would put her half brother in an impossible position. Also, she needs to take asylum in a country that doesn't have the sort of patriarchal laws that would allow an automatic return of children to the father. IMHO, when the daughter who tried ...

Re: Earthquakes, Tsunamis & Volcanos

My sister and I were sitting at the dining table when everything started to gently rock back and forth. Wasn't any doubt what it was, although the long roller didn't knock anything down.
Although I bet that if we were near the epicenter, it wouldn't have felt so 'gentle.' :?

Re: Jockey/Trainer News - 2019

All the corrections to the way racing is done mentioned above do need to happen...but we also should remember that horse racing is still far more humane than it used to be in 'Ye Goode Olde Days.' I'm pretty sure horses were injured just as often, but the pick ups by the knacker trucks weren't noted...

Re: In Memoriam 2019

IIRC, another horse was eased during one of the later races at Churchill and apparently suffered from 'heat stroke.' At least he made it back to the barn OK. :( It was very hot and humid at Churchill today; even one of the hosts there for Day At the Races looked like he'd been boiled and then dunked...

Re: The End of Suffolk Downs

I was watching the racing from Belmont today, and one of the last races got hit with heavy rain with high wind. It was so bad that they brought the field ( which was already out on the track warming up ) back into the paddock until the weather let up. I'd bet that line of storms is what hit you at S...

IMO, Twirling Candy is turning out to be Candy Ride's best sire son.
I wonder if this colt got his name because he inherited his dad's temperament? :P ;)

Agreed. Not just because he has (IMHO) a more balanced conformation, but having the great producer, Leslie's Lady, as a dam makes his pedigree superior to Justify's.

Re: 2019 Breeders Cup

Churchill's injury record (IIRC) has been worse than Santa Anita's in recent years ( except for this winter's breakdown spike ). Moving it there not only doesn't reduce the possibility of an injury during a BC race, it might increase it. If a breakdown occurs at Kentucky's premier track in the middl...

Re: Santa Anita 2019

I don't have time to read the whole article, but does he ever point out that almost ALL racing in Europe and Asia is done on grass? Which is safer for horses?
Comparing the injury records of American vs. international racing is sort of apples to oranges. :?
