Re: 2019 Breeders Cup Classic and Watch

The Dirt Mile may have just gotten a bit easier for Omaha Beach, as apparently Catalina Cruiser is going to the Sprint instead. https://www.paulickreport.com/news/breeders-cup/catalina-cruiser-pivots-to-sprint-bellafina-looked-really-good-in-penultimate-work/ Kind of looking forward to maybe...

Re: In Memoriam 2019

Ugh. Santa Anita made the news again today, as another breakdown/euthanization has added to the year's toll. :( RIP Satchel Paige . The Stronach Group: Satchel Paige’s Fatal Breakdown To Be Investigated Satchel Paige, a three-year-old gelding, was humanely euthanized after the fifth race on Saturday...

Re: New Stallions of 2020

I wouldn't be surprised if the hope of 'Frankel's genetics for Noble Mission's fee' might have given NM a bit of a boost here...and he just actually might be giving the breeders what they hoped for. 8-)

Re: New Stallions of 2020

It's not unheard of for the less-accomplished full brothers of great racehorses to turn out to be decent sires. Giant's Causeway's sibling, Freud, did pretty well for himself.

Ouch.
Hopefully, she just didn't know what she was supposed to do and will improve off her first try.

I know the Sprint is looking to be loaded, but I would put my mythical money on Imperial Hint if I had to choose.
Love that adorable little rocket. :D

Re: 2019 Breeders Cup Classic and Watch

Soon after I wrote the above post, I read an article that listed some of the horses OB may face in the Dirt Mile...and yeah, there are a few "formidable" ones. :P
Not only Catalina Cruiser, but apparently Mitole is also entered. Or maybe he's cross-entered for the Sprint as well?

I wish I could watch this filly debut; I was a big fan of her half-sister. :) Half Sister to Tepin Set to Debut at Keeneland On an Oct. 18 afternoon at Keeneland in which a full field of well-bred fillies competes in the Pin Oak Valley View Stakes (G3T), it is an unraced filly in the second race tha...

Re: 2019 Breeders Cup Classic and Watch

I'm glad to read that. IIRC, this year's Sprint may have a formidable field, and Omaha Beach could find the Dirt Mile a softer spot to step up in distance.

Re: Horse Racing Is Its Own Worst Enemy

It's terribly sad that the mare suffered a catastrophic injury and had to be euthanized, but I'm not sure what is so horribly scandalous about what happened next. If Mountaineer handles the disposal of euthanized horses, and they have a contract with the landfill to dispose of carcasses legally , th...

Re: New Dirt Mile sponser...

I saw several Big Fans ads during the last NBC broadcast of BC W&YI live racing. And they just say 'Big Fans,' leaving the donkey's hindquarters from their logo silent. ;)
The ad showed a TB and jockey walking under (sort of) one of their huge, multi-spoke industrial fans.

He looks a lot like dad...as do many of the HC offspring I've seen.
IMHO we could soon start saying 'Honor Code stamps his get.'

Re: Across the pond

I know that Australia, with mares like Black Caviar, Makybe Diva and Winx, has had some of the greatest six-year-old distaffers we will ever see. I hope that Enable joins their ranks next year. She seems to still have that drive to win, so I hope her body is as strong as her mind.

Re: Across the pond

Wow. :o
I'm surprised by that. Is it that important to the connections that she retire on a 'winning note?' I don't remember many...if any...racemares who improved at six, or even held their five-year-old form.

Tyrannosaurus Rex c. Temple City x Rock Star Royalty

I'd have to think that someone has been just waiting for the right horse (large and ferocious?) to come along to be saddled with that name. :P ;)

Re: Stallion Headshots Collection

Wow...what a pin-up pony. That might be the most Arabian-like head I've seen on a TB.
The ghost of the Byerley Turk may have returned in that handsome bay. And it's so nice to see a son of Harlan's Holiday with whom I was not at all familiar. Thanks for the photos.
