Re: Mubtaahij

Actually, my philosophy is that if you are really looking for a Triple Crown, then you should theoretically be looking for a horse who can run 1-1/2 miles, not 1-1/4 miles. :D That whittles down one's KY Derby list quite a bit more. That is one premise that some people start off with in the first p...

Re: Mubtaahij

(interestingly, I've found that a lot of people who like him also like the other two horses I'm focusing on, Frosted and International Star. I think people certainly give different weight to different handicapping angles, and that is displayed in their picks. I believe that track performance outwei...

Re: Mubtaahij

[quote="dustino140"]I think that if Europe (or any other country) really ever begins embracing our big dirt events, they'll start taking them on a semi-regular basis. They've been beaten, what, a combined 4 feet in the last two Breeders' Cup Classics and they majority of their Derby horses have been...

That's about where I am. Too much going on this week for me to be super excited yet. I'll hit about 6 or 7 at post position draw, but won't hit 9 or 10 until Saturday.

Re: Superfecta.......anyone?

Not 100% sure I'll do a superfecta this year. Did my first handicapping session (for this Derby) with my partner/mentor last night. After factoring in dosage, form, and speed (we use another friend's speed fig, not BSF, etc.), we identified 7 horses that we think have a shot, but won't finalize unti...

Re: Mubtaahij

I'm still trying to figure out what races Mubtaahij won or even ran in that were 1 1/4 and 1 3/8.... sorry, you are correct, I meant 1-3/16th not 1-3/8 At any rate, I do like him on my ticket, not sure where yet. Did a handicapping session with a friend last night. We determined that we couldn't to...

Blackboard. The computer program I have to use to submit my coursework online to my professor. Thank goodness I'm in my last two weeks of class before summer break and my next class doesn't start til fall. This computer program keeps crashing on me and it's driving me nuts It still boggles my mind ...

Re: The VENT Thread

We told them that we were starting the process, but there are about 5 dogs at that shelter that I am interested in. As our son has been traumatized a bit my the neighbor's GSD, we are allowing him to dictate the if, when, and what of an adoption. So, it was actually a combination trip. I've just nev...

Re: The Auto-toss...

If Pletcher starts him, I'll most likely toss ITSAKNOCKOUT. pedigree isn't exactly a wow factor, and he got beaten over 20 lengths in the FL Derby.

Re: Cozmic One

And keep in mind he's only half his mother.....he's also half his father. Who started Jan 7th of his 3yr old year (4th) and broke his maiden in his 2nd try on March 4th. So, is he ahead, or behind? ;) I'd say he is where he should be. As it's been said, he isn't his sire OR his dam. He is Coz, and ...

Re: The VENT Thread

In an effort to get our son over his fear of dogs, we took him to a shelter last week. I knew that this particular shelter had a great reputation, and was worth the nearly 1 hour drive we spent getting there. I was not prepared, however, to be told "you can't interact with a dog unless you have an a...

Re: To get in the spirit of things...

Am I the only horse racing fan who despises Mint Juleps? And I like a lot of different adult beverages. I don't like Mojitos either so that could have something to do with it. But my biggest memory is when I spent $8 on one at the 2004 Derby just to say I tried it and proceeded to take two sips and...

Re: Cozmic One

Let's just say he is spoiled, doesn't quite no what is going on (yet), and that he's just not his mother. Doesn't seem like rocket science. And let's not overlook that he was half a year younger than momma the first time he got raced. Hopefully his mind will grow up a bit more in the months to come...

Re: Cozmic One

Someone posted on a friend's FB page that maybe he needs to be trained as if he's a sprinter. I wonder if he could just not like the dirt. Maybe he's a turf horse; Bernardini has sired some decent turf runners.

Re: That simple

For years, I went with dosage only, selecting only horses that seemed to "fit" the pedigree. Not bad in my first outing, which had Giacomo on my first list (but not my actual pick), and got me Barbaro on my second try. Last year, though, I teamed up with a friend to handicap the Derby, and this is w...

Re: Cozmic One

Finished last, and hopefully the connections have now learned that runstyle isn't heritable. Pretty baffling decision to take him back early, he completely quite when he got hit by the kickback. Kickback? Decision to take him back? His works had always indicated he was just slow, didn't they? Don't...

Re: Cozmic One

I was expecting a hellion in the post parade. I think he just needs a few races under his belt. He broke decently, which is good. I don't think this was a race that the connections were necessarily expecting to win; tough group for a first time starter to get in with. Now they know what needs work.

I thought I read that Affirmed and Alydar recognized each other when Affirmed arrived for stud duty at Calumet. Apparently, one of them threw an absolute fit, as if saying, "YOU AGAIN?!?"
