Re: How have Derby winners done as sires?

They were only unfashionable because they couldn't consistently sire good foals. They all got a chance in Kentucky, some longer than others. They all got at least some decent mares during their first couple years at stud. I couldn't name more than a few of each stallions foals though and I've follo...

Re: How have Derby winners done as sires?

All of that talk makes me wonder what could've been if Swale hadn't died. Slew was a sire of sires, for sure, and it would've been interesting to see how Swale would've done. Also sad to see how many good horses were too "unfashionable" to stay in Kentucky. Most of my faves (Sunny's Halo, Go for Gin...

Re: Fantasy Belmont: Which of the Derby/Preakness horses win

I didn't see Spectacular Bid or Pleasant Colony race. I did my pedigree analysis and then looked at their form heading into the Belmont. The pedigree stuff hurt Sunday Silence and Charismatic the most. The form (which factors in margin of victory) hurt Silver Charm, Sunday Silence, and Real Quiet. I...

Re: Early Thoughts - Belmont Winner

I'll get started on my chart soon. From a pedigree standpoint, Tale of Verve and Mubtaahij are bred to run long, but Tale of Verve is going to be WAY off the pace and that rarely works in the Belmont unless the pace is just absolutely murderous. I may still play him under in exotics, but I don't thi...

Re: Fantasy Belmont: Which of the Derby/Preakness horses win

Plugged these guys into the same chart I use in the TC. I came up with: Smarty as the winner, with Big Brown and Funny Cide rounding out the tri. That being said, horses like SIlver Charm suffered from having more of a grinding style in the stretch. If I had to go with my gut, I'd say that it would ...

Re: Unintended humor on the Preakness telecast

I wish I could find a still photo or the video online of Stevens being interviewed prior to the race. Did anyone else note it? On the left of the frame is Stevens in his race silks, from midsection up. You couldn't tell if he's sitting or standing -- it was just his torso and up in the shot. To the...

Last night I put together a superfecta keying AP. I talked myself out of it (And out of Yale of Verve altogether). I am kicking myself right now. (and drowning my sorrows in a very unhealthy dinner)

I've done 4 bets
exacta 1/ALL
Super box 1,3,6,8 (dream numbers)
Super box 1,2,7,8
Super 1,2 7,8/1,2,4,7,8/1,2,4,6,7,8/1,2,4,6,7,8
(Just wasn't confident enough to key anyone)

Re: PREAKNESS STAKES Gr1, $ 1 Million, 1 3/16th Miles, 3

On my pedigree chart, Tale of Verve actually comes out on top. Yeah, he would. That is why he cost $440,000 and why he's on so many Belmont Stakes lists. with all the EP horses in this race, not sure Preakness is right race for his running style. But if you think speed will fall apart or Mr. Z will...

Re: PREAKNESS STAKES Gr1, $ 1 Million, 1 3/16th Miles, 3

On my pedigree chart, Tale of Verve actually comes out on top. He goes back to some pretty good Claiborne producers.(His performance though, has him sitting toward the bottom). I'm actually thinking of using him underneath in exotics because he could close into a hot pace. Same with Danzig Moon. I'm...

Re: Will American Pharoah win the Triple Crown?

I think Dortmund can win this. Seems like perfect distance for him. Right now along with Dortmund I'm considering Danzig Moon, AP and Divining Rod underneath for exacta. I like that Bodhisaatva horse a little due to interval training type works trainer is doing w/him if I go deep exotics. Not sure ...

Re: California Chrome

I guess I'll have to breakdown and go out to Arlington. Sweltering heat isn't my thing. For Chrome, I will bear the discomfort. The last couple times that I've been able to go were actually quite pleasant, weather-wise. Most Arlington Million days are hotter than hell. In fact July & August here is...

Why must cover letters be so stressful to write? Found a dream job. Resume is easy to customize, but this place has four specific things they a requesting in the cover letter. Now I'm trying to figure out if I've adequately addressed each item. Hate this! :x

Re: Will American Pharoah win the Triple Crown?

I honestly don't think he wants any part of a 12F race. I'm not worried about the Preakness, but Belmont for sure. I didn't vote. I didn't put AP on my trifecta so I don't deserve to vote  I really don't know what to make of him. I still like Dortmund better, but I don't know if Dortmund is re...

Re: Will American Pharoah win the Triple Crown?

Late to the voting party, but I'm in the "no" camp as well. I think this is going to be a wide-open TC trail, and I'm not sure that AP can beat Firing Line or Dortmund back-to-back like that, and I honestly don't think he wants any part of a 12F race.

Re: The VENT Thread

I just watched one guy with a pit bull pup about 10 months old. No training at all. The dog is chewing on the leash, jumping at him, chewing his hands, yanking him back and forth across the street, making running jumps at every car driving by.... on and on. She's 80 lbs already. I'm just picturing ...
