Re: 2019 Pegasus World Cup

People get so out of sorts when 3yo’s get retired and whisked off to stud. Many if those aren’t likely to move up anyway. What would City of Light look like if they went on with him? With maturity, maybe he could get 10f. He’s been fun to watch. Yeah, I can't complain too much about a 5yo multiple ...

Re: 2019 Pegasus World Cup

This track favored him, but City of Light is so good. Or should I say was so good? It's a shame he's retiring when he's clearly at the top of his game right now.

I hope Patternrecognition is okay.

He paid $18 so I'm guessing "they" bet offshore.
They as in the connections. Also, 8-1 is pretty hot for one of his debut horses. Horse was 12-1 ML.

Re: 2019 Pegasus World Cup

Haven't had a chance to keep up with anything lately, but Hidden Scroll just catapulted onto many Derby lists. Incredible debut for a Mott, albeit one who was working lights out before today. Not by winning on a bog with a pretty turf heavy pedigree (even if it's really nice pedigree). Caveats appl...

Did the people in 1950's America feel the Triple Crown was garbage when they had seven Triple Crown winners in the previous twenty years?
They did not because they had something we do not - respect.
Ah yes, those halcyon days of respect and civility in America- the Jim Crow Era.

…..the insulting treatment by Justify's connections (and, by extension, large portions of the racing media), 2018 didn't always feel like a particularly welcoming year to racing fans. Just curious, what "insulting treatment" are you referring to, by either the connections or the media? The endless ...

Re: 2019 Pegasus World Cup

People getting wasting at sporting events isn't exclusive to NYRA. I should probably even remove sport events. Casual alcoholism is rampant. Although I read some article a few months ago about how much whiskey they drank in the 1880s... I think it came out to about 3 750ml bottles of Jack a week pe...

Re: 2019 Pegasus World Cup

I like the bare concept of the race- it's nice to have something to look forward to after the BC, and although the fields haven't been great top-to-bottom, there have been some excellent matchups and both winners were outstanding. I'm sincerely looking forward to this year's dirt edition (still have...

Re: Ken Ramsey

Hey remember that time Ramsey threw a fit because his unsound horse wasn't allowed to run in the Derby? How many hopeless cases has he thrown into that meat grinder?

I can't think of a single reason why people would actually like him.

Ray Paulick's take: View From The Eighth Pole: Graded Stakes Committee Lacks Common Sense https://www.paulickreport.com/news/ray-s-paddock/view-from-the-eighth-pole-graded-stakes-committee-lacks-common-sense/ It's times like these when I really lament the lack of diversity in turf writing. What a wonderful relief it is to hear from you, BA. I'm so sorry to hear that your home was lost in the fire, but I'm in awe of the fact that you had the presence of mind to not only get yourself and your pets out, but to alert your neighbors as well. You very well may have saved some lives that nig...

That was a pretty bad second by Audible, although he was bizarrely wide and the track is a mess. Still should have finished well-clear of those horses.

Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

completely forgot about La Verdad, that's a great point. If anything, the lack of graded stakes often forces the best horses in the division to race against each other. Isn’t this what we want though? (Or am I misunderstanding your point? ) Oh, yeah that wasn't clear- I mean that even though Stormy...

Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

...you all realize that the sport would be in a much healthier place if Accelerate was on the list, right? The fact that only Justify made any sort of impact on the wider sports audience only emphasizes the harm done by his early retirement. La Verdad won an Eclipse without a G1 to her name. There's...

Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

Yeah, I know he's not a traditional choice and "G1 win, G3 win, listed win" doesn't sound like a championship resume, but it's not his fault those races won't be upgraded until next year and he was fantastic in the BC (and pretty darn good in Dubai, for whatever that's worth). Not about to hold my b...

Thank you for reaching out to her on everyone's behalf, Kurenai. I'm sure she has far more important things to worry about than a horse racing forum, but I hope she knows that many of us are willing to help with whatever she needs. I did do some sleuthing and I think it's unlikely that she was a vic...

Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

Alright then, let's just shut the sport down. This whole situation is the exact thing we've collectively feared and complained about for years, but now that it's actually happened, we're supposed to just... shut up and be grateful for it? After we watched a TC winner- the first in nearly four decade...
