Re: Kentucky Derby : Do you agree with the stewards decision?

As a fan I think I find myself caught between two minds. From a race enjoyment perspective that race was not really about "the veer". It felt like a minor sub plot during the running that was barely noticed. Certainly it was there and it happened but it felt like an aside to the race as a whole. I t...

Re: Kentucky Derby Selections

"Speaking of Code of Honor...why didn't he win the Derby? As Maximum Security was floating wide then came sharply back in Code of Honor..." When MaxS veered back in toward the rail, I think he made contact with CoH as that one was accelerating up the rail. IMHO, that bump may have been a hard one a...

Re: Kentucky Derby Selections

I think the race ended up being really interesting from a tactical perspective. The pace started quickly and you thought fireworks may ensue but then they really backed off the gas and all of the sudden the closers were the ones in the wrong spot. The Speed of the Speed really got the upper hand her...

Re: Kentucky Derby Selections

Horse By Horse Thoughts By My Standards I think he could win and all of his numbers and stats make him look like a good wise guy kind of play. He’s got some figures of the big players but the price of a longer shot. He feels trendy and slightly under the radar but I’m going to let him beat me. I th...

Re: Kentucky Derby Selections

For me the major questions leading into any Derby are “What will be pace be?” and “What is the level of quality?” So I’m going to try to lay out my thoughts in those terms. Pace makes the race as the saying goes and I do think the withdrawal of Omaha Beach leaves the race in an interesting spot. I t...

Re: Kentucky Derby Top 5

Pace makes the race..or at least that's what they say. So I always like to see if I can examine the speed horses very closely to see what their chances are like. Categorizing a horses running style is tricky but using the following method I've broken down the field by running styles for every Derby ...

Re: Kentucky Derby Top 5

One horse I've seen get a lot of love from handicapping forums is Tax. Personally, I don't see it at all and think Tacitus was ten miles the best in the Wood. Anyone have any thoughts on him? I have a natural bad habit of "seeing" parallel's from one horse to another eventhough they have nothing to...

Re: Kentucky Derby Top 5

Yeah I miss Kennedy's list, with all the variables and sound reasoning. Do we know the story on Kennedy? Is he gone from this board all together and/or has he restarted his original blog? I miss the Kennedy Corridor, which was unbelievably phenomenal, more and more each year. I learned so much abou...

Re: Baffert's Most Talented Trainee

I think I can get behind American Pharoah and Bafferts best with Arrogate and Point Given completing the trifecta of talent.

But when I think about races that I have loved and enjoyed over the years that contained Baffert runners I think that Silver Charm was in more of them than any of the others.

Re: Breeders' Cup Picks and Analysis

F&M Sprint Maybe it's PTSD from Ami's Mesa getting nosed out last year, but I am still having a terrible time figuring out this race. Many of these mares don't seem to really want 7f, it looks like there's a ton of pace but not many of them seem to need the lead, and while Marley's Freedom is a wel...

Final time in the Juvenile fillies was actually 0.05 seconds quicker. It's happened a few times since the turn of the century. I'm thinking Newspaperofrecord wins this like everyone else but I would try to get The Mackem Bullet and My Gal Betty into the frame behind her.

Re: Breeders' Cup Watchalong Thread

I wish some more interesting horses had made the field like All About It. I feel like I just can't get into any of the longshots here. I know it's juveniles on the turf so anything can happen (and likely will) but I need a reason to pick someone and I just can't convince myself of anyone who is at a...

Imperial Hint is prob the closest thing to a "lock" this year, if there is one
I think it's early because preps do change things but Oscar Performance in the Mile is my lock or Marley's Freedom in the FM Sprint.

Where's Kennedy?
Really busy with a million things :)

I am really looking forward to the BC though but now the Distaff has really retreated in terms of the quality of the event. Potentially it's one for the 3yo's to dominate? Or maybe it's just wide open.
