Re: Coaching Club America

Somehow that gave me credit for that quote. Hows that for irony?

Re: Coaching Club America

We just disagree. I don't think he was just trying to compliment Pletcher on what a great record he has. But that's really not the big issue. I'm not a Pletcher hater, but we've been seeing a general consolidation of power that makes a lot of fans and bettors leary. When Pletcher can muscle out of i...

Re: Coaching Club America

Well I like how you used Einsteining. Shows creativity and flair.

But I still don't like your conclusion that since Jones didn't hipcheck Todd out of the Winners Circle and double bird the stewards box that he must have completely agreed with the stewards rulings.

Re: Coaching Club America

Yeah, you really do have to smile and shake hands. Jones is very gracious and gets that. No amount of protest or public anger would change the outcome. But I think the quote reveals a little more about how he really feels. It could be something as simple as the hometown boy getting the call on his ...

Re: Coaching Club America

Really, you think Jones was simply praising Pletcher for his win record with that quote?
I think he's still being gracious, but I took a different meaning, i.e., He kinda owns this place, or maybe the more innocent: This is his track.

Re: Coaching Club America

My post was in response to a comparison between the stewards at Gulfstream and Saratoga. I stated that Saratoga should not have the same conflict of interest that Gulfstream does. Though let me point out that Florent Geroux and Larry Jones don't carry the same weight as Pletcher and Velazquez. Wheth...

The tracks are competing to get the best horses, Thinair.
I know you probably can't say anything bad about your employer, but you should be able to have a clear view of this simple economic fact.

Re: Coaching Club America

Detract from what conversation exactly? You don't want the fact that the stewards decided a grade I to detract from your enjoyment of the race. That means you want no conversation. And I can understand why, and you're welcome to look away. But racing has some inherent conflicts of interest. We all k...

Re: Coaching Club America

In a remarkable turn of events, the Gulfstream stewards, once odds on to be awarded most incompetent stewards have been replaced as favorites by their counterparts at NYRA. And it only took them 3 days at Saratoga to ruin a pair of graded races! The problem is we know Gulfstream needs the Pletcher ...

Re: Carpe Diem

And it only took them 3 and a half months to find this bone chip on their multimillion dollar horse that was near favoritism in the Kentucky Derby but ran 10th inexplicably and had to be withdrawn from future races because he was never 100%?

Re: Saratoga meet 2015

Although I've never been I honestly love Saratoga. The entire race meet is just so enjoyable. I've already got my Saratoga PP package all set. I can't wait to sit back and analyze the races. I almost find it calming/comforting. Like a daily crossword for some people. Maybe it's time to start bloggi...

Re: Indiana Derby (Grade 2) & Indiana Oaks (Grade 2) - 7/18

Will Take Charge did race 6 times as a 4YO and won the Oaklawn Handicap, but didn't win any Grade 1s. I'm trying to find a G1 on dirt that he's won with a horse he's trained at 3 and 4 but can't find one. I imagine there has to be one, but none of his big males won much at 4. Most were either injure...

Re: Indiana Derby (Grade 2) & Indiana Oaks (Grade 2) - 7/18

That's certainly true. If a 3YO can survive through Lukas and pick up some black type, he's pretty great. We've already discussed his record with 4YO males.

Re: Indiana Derby (Grade 2) & Indiana Oaks (Grade 2) - 7/18

I never liked Ocho3. As a rule I never get attached to horses that win the Delta Downs Jackpot (I know, Goldencents), anyway I thought it was possible that like Ocho, Mr. Z simply couldn't keep up with his peers, but look how well he's running now with the cut back in distance and class relief. But ...

Re: Indiana Derby (Grade 2) & Indiana Oaks (Grade 2) - 7/18

My point was pretty simple too. While winning isn't everything. I wouldn't call a horse with a 0.125 win rate a highly successful horse. He's made more than the average claiming horse, and he does pick up checks even when he's 8+ lengths back from the winner. But what makes it worse is that this hor...

Re: Indiana Derby (Grade 2) & Indiana Oaks (Grade 2) - 7/18

was bought as a yearling for $135,000, banked much more (net) on track and then was sold by Zayat Stables for over a million+?

That's success in my book. Where do I sign up?
