Re: Santa Anita to close ...

It's not like SA was the only track to close. Coastal cities are getting slammed first, and all it will take is one positive to close other tracks. I would be surprised if there's racing anywhere a month from now. In related news, Suffolk Downs has been turned into a first-responders-only testing f...

Re: Saturday Gulfstream Watchalong

I've never been a big fan of the "well a longshot finished second so that means the field wasn't good quality" logic because the odds aren't always right, as bettors are human and tend to overlook things. Maybe that horse should not have been a longshot. Maybe that horse just had their best day so ...

Re: Santa Anita to close ...

Santa Anita honcho asked the hypothetical question.....on a scale of 1 to 10, what's the likelihood the track re-opens next weekend with a special exemption status while donating any profits to the various causes/charities?

His answer, a strong optimistic 6.5.

Re: Day 2

Today was nice. Had a lovely time handicapping Gulfstream and talking about it with everyone- nothing lke a bunch of bad beats to remind you why you love this game :D A lot of really nice horses ran today, and most importantly they all came home safe. If that's our last big day for a while, it was ...

There’s hope that the SA closure will be short-lived. Lots of works today, including Honor A.P. in 1:00 and change...Thousand Words also worked

I'm not in favor of this because of the precedent it could set. What other illnesses could eventually be given a mandatory DNR order.
Just thinking back to the early days of HIV/AIDS when nobody had a clue what was going on and there were kneejerk reactions that are now legendary.

Re: Santa Anita to close ...

Yeah, for the past few years they've run short (not) boutique daytime TB meets at Los Alamitos. It's just too obvious a solution, although I suppose the CHRB would have to approve the switch somehow. But given how they were indifferent to SA's fate (I mean, didn't the Governor agree that it was "es...

Re: Saturday Gulfstream Watchalong

Pimlico didn't move the Preakness yet, did they? I can't remember reading anything about that but it has been a whirlwind. If that's the case they just need to go to the Preakness, not the Ark Derby. IMO, anyway. Every year there's always one horse that wants to run in the Preakness, plus a few tha...

I don't think any of them close out of the goodness in their hearts voluntarily, rather those that receive the most political pressure are doomed.

Re: Santa Anita to close ...

Just a wild random thought..... Could the SantaAnita horses relocate to Los Alamitos just outside of arm's length of the LA City Council? Have to think that even the CHRB would bless it, no? I was thinking they could at least run the SA Derby at Golden Gate, but Steve Haskins pointed out that the s...

Re: Saturday Gulfstream Watchalong

Somebody out there is going to cash a life changing score today, congrats in advance. Those kinds of wins come in at OP almost every day. I don't know about life-changing I don't know how much is in the P6 pool, but let's guess $7,000,000+.....OP doesn't have pools quite like that! Only paid $17,00...

Any chance it'll pay out to 5 of 6? I'm asking for a friend...

Wait not Gulfstream please don't take him down!

Edit: phew. What a final furlong for that guy! He was nowhere early.
Only if Tiz loses, but good luck.
If Tiz didn't fire, you've got an 80-1 shot in second, hmmm$$$$
